This was a fantastic story. At one point, I clapped my hands together in glee for Agatha. The story was so satisfying on so many levels. I will definitely check out more from Brom.

Reminds me of R.L.Stein books from the 90s in the BEST way.
Revisado: 08-11-24
This was so good. It was cozy, and scary, and fun to listen to. It reminded me of reading Fear Street and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The story was engaging and descriptive and had so many twists and turns. As a fan of Crowley’s TikTok content, it was hard not to imagine the main character as her.
I would definitely buy more of her work. The narration was great for the audiobook too.

Historia
In 2007, the Center for Automation in Nanobiotech (CAN) outlined the hardware and software platforms that would one day allow robots smaller than human cells to make medical diagnoses, conduct repairs, and even self-propagate. In the same year, the CBS network re-aired a program about the effects of propranolol on sufferers of extreme trauma. A simple pill, it had been discovered, could wipe out the memory of any traumatic event. At almost the same moment in humanity’s broad history, mankind discovered the means for bringing about its utter downfall. And the ability to forget it ever happened.

Historia
The world outside has grown toxic, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. The remnants of humanity live underground in a single silo. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they want: They are allowed to go outside.

Historia
Dublin, 1962. Within the gated grounds of the convent of the Sisters of the Holy Redemption lies one of the city's Magdalen Laundries. Once places of refuge, the laundries have evolved into grim workhouses. Some inmates are "fallen" women - unwed mothers, prostitutes, or petty criminals. Most are ordinary girls whose only sin lies in being too pretty, too independent, or tempting the wrong man. Among them is 16-year-old Teagan Tiernan, sent by her family when her beauty provokes a lustful revelation from a young priest.

Heartbreaking
Revisado: 01-28-24
This reminded me very much of The Handmaid’s Tale, but the laundries were real. This story was heartbreaking and this is a fictionalized account. I have no doubt that, in reality, things were far worse for the church’s prisoners.

Revisado: 01-05-24
It was a great story, but it felt like things just spun right around at the end. Kind of like the Hans reveal in Frozen, so the narration was perfect. I do wish there had been melodies to most of the songs, especially since you had a narrator who can sing.

Historia
Environmental devastation and economic chaos have turned America into a land of horrifying depravity. Assault, theft, sexual abuse, slavery, and murder are commonplace. And a zealous, bigoted tyrant has won his way into the White House. Directly opposed is Lauren Olamina, founder of Earthseed - a new faith that teaches "God Is Change". Persecuted for "heathen" beliefs as much as for having a Black female leader, Earthseed's followers face a life-and-death struggle to preserve their vision.

- De David en 09-27-11
Her books always hit right in the feels.
Revisado: 09-17-23
I can’t believe I almost didn’t finish this book. It has a slow burn plot, but once you pass a certain point, it’s difficult to stop. And here I am on the other side, tear-stained and with much to think about.
The scariest part of this novel is how closely it aligns with current American politics and that it takes place just a few years from now.
