A lot of rape with a little bit of story
Revisado: 12-01-22
Alyssa has had everything a girl could want. Her dad made sure she had access to whatever she wanted whenever she wanted it. That is unless the thing she wanted was attention. After lashing out in school her friendly relationship with her father's best friend leads to something more. Amusing how the thing that she wanted so much is what led her to leave New York and travel to the UK to live with her mother. Since she's been here strange things are happening. Instances that couldn't have existed, healing dance, and so much more. But Sean isn't ready to let her go just like that.
I received a copy of this audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review. The book starts out okay. We know it is extreme age gap, but at the time of starting the book she is of legal age of consent so I didn't think too much of it. The more the book progressed the closer I got to DNF'ing the book. There is rape and sexual assault on a minor. A lot of it. Alyssa may not see it that way, but the more distance she get's from Sean the more that fact will become clear to her.
If you take out this horrendous and large portion of the book it is enjoyable. There are implied werewolves and witchcraft. Both of which are things I enjoy reading about. I can't say I am sorry for how the book ended. That was a cycle that wasn't going to sort itself. I hope she is able to tell her dad eventually and he responds correctly.
I enjoyed the dance studio sessions and if the book was more about that as well as what happened during baptism I'd probably have enjoyed it much more. As it stands I highly doubt I'll ever read another by this author. Definitely wasn't a great introduction to their work for me.

Story is perfect. Narrator could be better
Revisado: 10-02-22
Each time the Zorca circus passes through a town on the last night a child disappears. While his lightening scars scare many off Rurik is determined to find out what is happening to these children and keep more from meeting the same end. During a one day truce bloodwalker Sylvie and two other young bloodwalkers come to the circus to be married by Zora, the ringmaster's bloodwalker wife. They are met with scorn, but when Sylvie finds a body their options are limited. She can't tell anyone. It was forbidden. But, as more clues mount with the deaths Rurik and Sylvie may be the only chance at stopping this plight.
I received a copy of this audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review. I will start with the good. The book is amazing. I don't have a single complaint about the storyline nor the characters. While I could see where the story was heading there was always just enough wiggle room where there was doubt cast upon my main suspect. The author did a great job of attempting to cast around blame.
That being said the audiobook left things to be desired. For the most part it was okay and I am not sure if the narrator is new or simply didn't have editing equipment or what the case was. However, there are multiple points in the book where the narrator mispronounces words, seemingly skips sections of storyline, repeats others, and even clears his throat during the recording. If there was a different narrator or if the narration was fixed it would greatly improve the audio experience.
That being said that is not the author's fault and I will not be holding that against them. Rurik and Sylvie are constantly filled with self-doubt and a low opinion of themselves while trying their best to make the world around them better. Because of this I love them both, but Rurik was easily my favorite character in the book. I also adored the snippets from the bloodwalkers guide at the beginning of each chapter. Getting a further insight into what it should mean to be a bloodwalker was helpful since their work wasn't the focal point of this story.
I fully enjoyed the plot of this book and look forward to more from this author in the future.

Fictional Historical Retelling
Revisado: 09-05-22
Severus is from an African town that is under the control of the Roman empire and he is determined to do what he can to take his country back, even though his mother is a Roman. As he has always had a way with animals he is able to control elephants and is convinced by a rebellion to join forces to rid his country of the oppression. When things go wrong Severus departs for a place he once hated and everything in his life changes. For sometimes things are not what they seem and betrayal is around every corner. Just how far can one man go to protect an idea?
This book was read as an audio-book and I am glad that I did. I do not think I would have enjoyed it as much had I read it myself. This book follows the life of one man: Septimius Severus. While this is a fiction book it also holds truths. Septimius was indeed Caesar of Rome, as was his son Caracalla. Beyond that I don't have a in depth knowledge of the Roman empire. However, what I do know of it this book fits along those lines.
For anyone who enjoys a historical fiction book, look no further than this one. It is a great read and there are plenty of battles to enjoy. It seems that the author really did his homework with this one and it is easily enjoyable.

Broken Into Parts!!!!!!
Revisado: 09-05-22
When the gods unleash a great darkness onto the planet they must leave the world with some defense. Their decision is to make certain humans into immortals to fight the great battles. They themselves also became these immortal mortals, but have lost their memories. But, what if you didn't want to become an immortal and seek only the peace of death? Many years after the gods made this decision battles against the darkness continue as Emaranthe, Ivo, Jaegar, and Jadeth travel to a mining village to keep the starstone safe. When faced with skeletons, zombies, and a necromancer is it possible for them to save the town and it's secret?
While I think this was a good book I am not fond of books that leave off before the story is finished as I have often-times stated. I enjoy a good battle as much as the next girl, but almost 4 hours and I feel like it was little more than an intro into a story. I liked the characters and would have liked to know more about them, but I won't be getting any more of these books as I prefer books to be the full story all in one book, not broken into parts. If you are fond of books that leave off then enjoy this.

Time Travel Alien Fiction
Revisado: 09-05-22
When Barry was a young boy he was abducted by aliens...too bad he doesn't remember it. If he did then he may have had some insight into what is going on now. Instead when the young photographer happens upon a charred corpse in the same field he was discovered in as a child after his abduction he is at a loss. After-all The Tattler magazine only prints fake, outlandish, stories. This one of theirs couldn't possibly be real.
I was given this book as an audiobook by the author in exchange for an honest review. I will start by saying the book itself is fun, interesting, and unique. I don't have a lot of negative to say about it, in all honesty. I don't like the narrator. Not that he did anything innately wrong, he just didn't pronounce the "c" in the word picture. It made me cringe every time and as the main character is a photographer it happened a lot. I wouldn't let this deter you from reading the book, or in this case listen to it, however. Barry and Nikki are characters that will cause you to go through a wide array of emotions with them.
Such as, at one point due to Barry's actions (which I shall not mention) towards Nikki I was disgusted by him. But, one instance makes neither man nor character and as long as you learn from your mistakes, as the saying goes. Now then. There are aliens in this story. I can safely say this as they are on the cover of the book. The name of these aliens will forever make me roll my eyes and I am sure, once you get to that point in the story you will understand why. I will never understand daytime television and their stars. I will take a book any day.
My favorite character in this book is actually someone who was featured in many of The Tattler's stories, Squatch. As his name suggests he is a Sasquatch. I don't know if I like him because he is someone who cares deeply for his family and stands up for his morals or if I simply like him because my husband's nickname is high-school was Sasquatch and was his contact in my phone from the time we were 16 until 18.
All in all this is an interesting read and one that conspiracy theorists and normal folk alike can enjoy.

Time Travel Alien Fiction
Revisado: 09-05-22
It has been 4 years since the race of aliens from the planet Kardash has taken over the planet. Since then Agent Cromwell has been the President of the United States. Now the aliens are allowing the human race to run in a presidency. The one to run is none other than Lee Fin. The fate of the world rests on who is elected and whose message is received. Everything seems to be going well until a time-traveler from 600 years in the future comes back to try to right the wrong that has been done at this point in history. Can Elaina save the person she came back to save or will her boss, Rupart, achieve his own agenda?
Time is a fluid thing. Constantly changing based on the actions that we take and the choices that we make. So when, in the future, time travel becomes possible someone could go back to any point and make changes that causes life in their current time to change as a result. We all have regrets and would want to go back to a certain time and change something that had happened. For this reason there are the Time Cops. Police that are able to see when an event has been altered and resolve it. Yet, as with any institution corruption is always possible. This was the case with Rupart, who wanted to go back in time and ensure that the results of the election led to the residents of Kardash to remain on the planet.
If you could go back and change something would you? I have many regrets, but out of those regrets I have my son. A son that I wouldn't trade for anything. When I think about my life I know that if anything in it was different that I may not be who I am today and I am fine with the person that I am. That being said, I can see how it could be used for good. But, this book is about much more than the controversies surrounding time travel. There is action, awful aliens, and a crime lord. Even a dash of romance and heart-break. Truly something for everyone. I actually believe I enjoyed this book more than I enjoyed book one, both of which I received from the author in the form of an audible redemption code in exchange for an honest review.
The only thing I didn't like about this book was the same thing that irked me in book one. The narrator's inability to correctly pronounce the word picture. I promise there is a c in that word. But, since it is not the author's fault I will not take away any stars on the review because of it.

Post Apocalyptic Horror
Revisado: 09-05-22
Something bazaar has happened. One day everything was normal and the next the power was out and the military had taken a certain portion of everyone. Those that remain are not sure what is going on, but with the arrival of the swift they have bigger problems. Forced to hide in the dark with seemingly no food every day has become a fight for survival. Can they survive the fast menace who hunts them or will they starve to death first in their search for their families?
Coach Mike was separated from his wife and boys by the military and soon finds his previous player, Levi, on his quest for them. Now, he has a new reason to keep himself together as well as find a food source. The swift are edible, but they are so fast and hard to take down. Life has become the hunter and the hunted. The question is...which will come out on top?
I loved this book from the start, but certain things didn't make sense. I didn't question the food spoiling that the author expressed that he felt I would question. Instead I questioned why they would not eat the field corn that they were having to travel through. I know that field corn is primarily used for animals and ethanol, but as long as you get them before they "dent" field corn is edible. I have ate field corn many a time, and if I was starving I don't think I would have any compulsions against the hard dented corn either. It bothered me quite a bit at the time, but now that I know how the book ends it doesn't quite as much.
As always I will not give anything away, but this is one post-apocalyptic horror novel I suggest for anyone. I received this book as a free code from the author in exchange for a honest review. I have nothing bad to say about the book and can honestly say that I did not expect the ending. I was right in where I thought the swift had come from, however, which pleases me.

Intriguing Horror
Revisado: 09-05-22
Kait Brecker had escaped her ex-boyfriend Lutz and ran to her best friend, Alice. Whatever horror Lutz had forced on her Katie hadn't been able to tell. Instead, shutting into herself. But, that is okay. Alice would always be by her side. Now Kait was going with Alice, her boyfriend Ben, and Riley to Ben's family cabin in the woods for the weekend. Perfect place for Kait to get her head on straight and come back. That is until Lutz follows them and the bodies begin to pile up. Would any of them survive this weekend or would Lutz get what he wanted all along?
I received this audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review. He asked me once if I had any idea what was going on and it made me think that there was some kind of twist to the book. Something unexpected instead of what was implied. I kept searching for it and waiting for the other shoe to drop. It didn't, but it didn't detract from the book. In fact, I really enjoyed this book. Very body-snatchers. I had said it gave me skin-walker vibes when I spoke to him, but I knew that wasn't the right term even at the time. I had Covid and was a bit brain-fogged. I knew what I meant, but was hard to put it into words. Body Snatchers is better.
This horror book is different than others I have read and it is always great to find something new. It is a novel I think even King would be happy to read, based on his normal recommendations and his own writing styles. Maybe he will read it and give his opinion on it at some point. Who knows. Either way this was a great read and I look forward to more books from this author in the future.
My favorite character in this book was Alice, which is amusing considering the ending. Not that I will give the ending away, but you will see what I mean when you finish this book for yourself. She is so sweet and loveable while having a bit of a bite. Besides, you know I have a weakness for female redheads.

Goran is one of the rare fairies who can live without magical protection in the Blur, the human world where the days pass 20 times faster than in fairy realms. Goran’s secret missions for the Rangers Guild take him across the British colonies of North America - from far-flung mountains and rushing rivers to frontier farms and bustling towns. Along the way, Goran encounters Daniel Boone, George Washington, an improbably tall dwarf, a mysterious water maiden, and a series of terrifying monsters from European and Native American legend.

Historical Fantasy Fiction
Revisado: 09-05-22
Throughout history the fae of different species (Silth, Dwarves, Pixies, and others) have protected and lent a guiding hand to the humans. After-all, the humans do not know the perils they face at the hands of the monsters. So, when the humans travelled to the Americas the fae followed. Now, these humans are trying to distance themselves from their rightful ruler, the King of England. Allowing this to happen would lead to disaster as these humans are not up to the task of self governing. The fae must once more lend their influence to squash this rebellion before things get out of hand. The only problem is not all fae agree. Some believe that these humans have a right to govern. Who is right and who will win?
I received a copy of this audiobook from the narrator for a honest review. When I first began listening to the book I was so excited. I am a Kentucky girl, as anyone who has been reading my reviews for a while knows. And the first character we meet in our story is Daniel Boone. I grew up playing in Daniel Boone National Forest and used to pretend that ever gap between the hills was The Cumberland Gap. In reality I only lived about an hour from it.
My excitement continued as we began discussing the French and Indian war. It is one of the wars that aren't overdone. We covered it in American History, but it wasn't shoved down our throats until all mystery and majesty was gone from it. Unlike the American Revolution. We hit that point in the book and if I had been reading this book instead of listening to it there would have been a lot of skimming going on. My eyes would have all but glazed over and that would have been that. I liked the monsters. I liked the fair folk. I liked the concept of fae using their influence to get what they want. It fits with what is known of fae. When I read the synopsis, and yes, I actually read this synopsis since it was a book review request instead of an impulse buy, it was focused mostly on the fairy nations. There was exactly one sentence on the American Revolution so I thought it would be a background detail. I was wrong.
I do have to say I enjoyed listening to the narrator. It was always easy to tell who the different characters were and he didn't pause awkwardly like some that I listen to do. In fact, I started an impulse buy audiobook as soon as I finished this audiobook the other day and the difference between narrators is night and day. That being said, listening to Benjamin Fife narrating a mail order bride alien romance would be hilarious. Of that I have no doubt.
While I will be reading more books done by this narrator in the future I am not looking for any more by this author. The book was well written and flowed continuously, it just wasn't what I wanted.

Life of Scrooge
Revisado: 09-05-22
While the story of Ebenezer Scrooge is one we all know and love it is by no means the full and truthful account. From Ebenezer's birth through childhood, adolescence, and into adulthood there are many things that molded him into the man he became. Through these instances we can see led to his meeting with the ghosts and how his life changed there-after. Join me in traveling through the ages and getting a deeper understanding of this man made myth.
I received this audiobook from the narrator in exchange for an honest review. While I received it before Christmas it took me a while to get through it. Not that I don't enjoy scrooge, I think it is just so frequently told that for the most part we all know a great deal of this man's life already. As always, I enjoyed listening to the narrator, Benjamin Fife. My only regret in regards to the audiobook was when it entered the singing portions. Each time it happened I left the audiobook to play as I walked out of the room because it wasn't pleasant to listen to and I didn't know how far ahead to skip for the song to be over.
After listening to this audiobook I know a great deal more about the events in his life that made Scrooge the way he was depicted by Dickens so long ago. In fact, this story is one told by Tiny Tim as an old man where he recounts "Uncle" Scrooge's life. We learn more about the woman who held Ebenezer's heart, Miss Anabelle, and that it was not nearly as much her fault as we previously believed. We learned of his parents and what happened there. Most importantly we learned more of his sister, Fan.
Fan was easily my favorite character in the book, although her choice in a husband was quite lacking. I wish that she could have seen how Ebenezer's story played out, but his life was one rife with loss, hers counted among the greatest. I enjoyed being able to see the story a bit more clearly and the fact that Dickens was in the book made it all the better.
