This was actually quite painful to finish. The characters were all pretty much one dimensional and I couldn't get invested in any of them. The endless names of designers. The odd placement of a paragraph of sex.

I wouldn't even recommend this for a light summer beach read.

It's a good world when, as a child, you get tucked into bed and can fall asleep listening to a trusted voice reading a favorite story as you drift off to sleep.

And, 30 + years later, it's a perfect world when you can listen to a great narrator tell you your favorite story, allowing you to push the stress of the day away as you drift off to sleep. And what could be better than Michael Kramer reading Brandon Sanderson?

And, an Ipod never gets tired of repeating the same story. It's a very good world.

Tedious story

I simply could not make it though this book. I was looking for something off beat and fun in a kinky kind of way, and what I got was boring and a waste of money.

More development of the main characters in this 1

I love The Retrieval Artist books! I have been hooked on them for years now. I was thrilled when this one was released, and I eagerly put it at the top of my list to listen to immeditately.

Lots of story lines being drawn closer together, seems like we will get an ending to some tags that have been floating along since the 3rd book in this set!

Fast paced, this book is continuing to develop deeper characters in Flint and our new head of Moon Security office. I keep wondering if the blowback is going to trace back to the first bombing of Armstrong, and the refusal of Earth Alliance entrance to that particular planet. But we readers and still in the dark on that one!

Lots of new threadlines that could be good plots for future books! I'll cross my fingers in hopes this series has not even reached the 1/2 point in total books!

Thanks, Audible Extremes for introducing the series to me in the beginning as a free read! My reading (listening) life will never be the same!

Engaging Listen

I was pleasantly surprised at the easy flow of this story. I haven't found PB's books to be easy to follow in audio before, having to rewind and re-listen to parts before actually grasp them. But this was one of the books in my wish list, and it was on sale, so I took a gamble.

And, I enjoyed it!

Fast moving plot and action, it felt as though the story was rushing head-long into the jungle (of Louisiana, maybe?) and then.....run smack into a barrier. The story stopped. Literally. So....I'm feeling a little bit unfinished, without closure.

Still, it was enjoyable and I will probably download the 2nd in this series, even though I see that it isn't quite a continuing story.

Best Anti-Drug Campaign Ever....

I think that I've read or listened to most of Slaughter's books, and this one has to be one of the most bone-chilling.

I had thought she was softening in her writing, as I hadn't read anything this disturbing since KissCut. (one of the original series that this series spun off from)

I am enjoying the progression of Will's story, and hints that Sara's future in the books is assured.

I have to admit, after being thrown Amanda in her iron/steel character, it was really hard to reconcile hearing her as a young, uncertain rookie.

I had dropped this series for a while, and now I'm glad that I picked it back up again. I will be keeping an eye out for the next one.

Couldn't get excited about this one

A whiny, self absorbed guy that gets caught with his pants down. Lots of excuses, and a life that doesn't live up to what he expects it should be. The narrator was good, just not a very good plot.

Hard to believe, but the ending is even worse than the character feeling sorry for himself.

Don't waste the time you could be listening to something so much better....

Not a typical dry recitation of facts

I was pleasantly surprised at the easy listen that this turned out to be. Told in easy to follow language, several personal stories are told of the followers.

It wasn't written to shock the reader, and it explained how some people were just slowly sucked into the world of Jim Jones, until they were in so deep, it was impossible to retreat.
