This was a pretty good continuation. Who knew the power of friendship was a valid cultivation path.

Important to note:
Revisado: 04-15-24
It should be noted, this is technically the fifth book in the World of Magic series, however considering the ending of the fourth book, the time skip and events in the beginning of this book, I can absolutely understand separating it into a new series.
This book follows the MC in dealing with the trauma of loss in both healthy and deeply unhealthy ways and, as the title might indicate, delves deeper into the realistic costs of true immortality. Over all, it's a great read that continues a story I deeply enjoyed to begin with with new focus characters and the removal of one of my least favorite annoyances from the first series. The catharsis is real.

In the Prime Kingdoms, the system dominates everything. It dictates one’s strength, skills, and power. It spawns dungeons and guides the actions of their monsters. But every system has its limits, and it’s about to push four oddball adventurers to theirs.

This book won me over in the first ten minutes. The line that got me was "Did you *lick* my armor?!"

Victory seems within Artorian’s grasp when a deep dive becomes deep fried. Armed with beam weaponry against unreasonable rats, he’s making impressive progress on the Eternia Beta Run. Thanks in part to the Dwarves, and their relentless cheers to "Push...the...button!" There are a few final challenges that loom large on his path to triumph: the frozen continental storm, Fuyu No Arashi; the Matchless Gaston, and the final boss...Pag!

There's something to be said for an author-
Revisado: 07-23-23
who is willing to call out their fans for not understanding the concept. Love it. The entire series has been a very obvious exploration into someone who cares too much, and is drawn to help everyone to the point of getting distracted by "side quests". I love this concept, and that's why I still listen, every time a new book releases.

Toxic Love
Revisado: 02-17-23
This series is rapidly becoming a "so bad it's good" guilty pleasure. It's extraordinarily repetitive, and I'll repeat my complaint from the last book, the author needs a thesaurus, their lexicon is horribly lacking.
That being said, the relationship between the MC and his love interest is unhealthy to begin with. I'm all for determined loyalty, but the desperate need to be told you're pretty, especially after the "traumatic scar" is dealt with in about 5 chapters from introduction, is just silly.

Historia
Contains books one and two of Condemning the Heavens... On the continent of Chang'an, humans had lived as livestock and slaves to the Primordial Beasts. These beasts were ferocious, bloodthirsty, and overwhelmingly powerful, but even so, the humans managed to prevail in the face of despair. As the human race grew stronger the Primordial Beasts fought back with relentless fierceness, rousing beast hordes to engage in frenzied battles over the land. Every single child on the continent was taught martial arts for the sake of fighting these Primordial Beasts.

Decent.
Revisado: 02-12-23
The book itself isn't bad, the story is pretty basic, but it's basic done well. My main problem with it comes from the author's lack of a decent verbal lexicon. Every insult is "trash" every headpiece is "gold like a crown" and you don't really have a good mental image of any of the characters, period. A good chunk of the plot seems to be driven purely by "It's been too quiet time to throw easy fights at the protagonist" with very little in the actual struggle department. Every fight he goes into, he claims will be dangerous, but by the end of it he winds up going "oh, I only used one or two attacks actually", so it's a bit bland on the battle front. Otherwise, the character is semi-well written, if a bit *too* lone-wolf to make any of his friendships really seem deep. After all, he gets weepy over a guy he's known for a total of *three days*.
TL;DR: It's okay. Not great, but okay. Worth a credit for a couple decent chuckles, and some of the Freudian slips by the narrator... "Lan licked his fingers, and a red pill shot down Wei's throat"
That'll live on in my memory forever... God bless Freudian slips.

Historia
A coup has thrown the kingdom of Farshores into turmoil, and one of the pretender’s first moves was to order mercenaries to invade the Mage District and put all its inhabitants - men, women, and children - to the sword. There is one survivor: Horace Stonecutter, the youngest son of the Stonecutter family. Consumed with anger and a hunger for retribution, he journeys out to find who ordered the murder of his family. Along his bloody journey, he meets kings, princes, princesses, noblemen - and not so noble men. May God have mercy on his enemies - because he won’t.

Performance is okay
Revisado: 04-30-22
The MC is boring, consistently facing the same thing again and again, and then the author uses the worst possible trope to have ever graced this genre. It's essentially the perfect backstory for an edge lord rogue in DnD.
