No one goes to jail for thought crimes
Revisado: 03-12-24
I listened to Prof of Red Flags w/so much frustration! Psychologists, counselors, etc al CANNOT report a client for saying they thought about committing murder or abduction.
No police force is going to give a single eff upon hearing that report.
THE only thing to do is encourage the client to make another appointment.
The only basis they might have had is that he was an employee of the school, IF they even knew.
Also Jonah needs to stop saying, 'Show me on the doll..' Funny the 1st time. It's over now.

Historia
We’ve all heard the phrase ‘that kind of thing doesn’t happen in our town’, but here on Midwest Murder, we will shatter that false reality. In fact, it happens more often than we know, and sometimes the details of the most horrific crimes that happen in our neighborhoods are lost in the back pages of newspapers, forgotten on our news channels, and eventually erased over time.

Revisado: 03-12-24
I'd pretty much quit most true crime podcasts when I did a search for Midwest podcasts & found this one. I LOVE Dawn's voice and diction! I also adore her corrections of Jonah, which are always exactly what I'm thinking at the time.
Love this show!

Hey you guys, it’s Leslie. I’m excited to share my story with you. Now, I’m gonna be honest: Some of the details might be vague because a b*tch is fifty-five and she’s smoked a ton of weed. But while bits might be a touch hazy, I can promise you the underlying truth is REAL.

Brilliantly crafted
Revisado: 01-03-24
I hope this becomes the blueprint for autobiographies.
She might have thought she rambled in places, but the narration sounded like I was sitting at the kitchen table getting to know someone I just met from down the block.
I felt how painful it was for her to lay bare the details of her parent's and brother's deaths, as well as the numerous take-aways.
From one 6-ft heifer to another, I congratulate Leslie Jones on a fantastic f*#!ing book and pitch-perfect narration.

This is a well-written story, with great characters that you can't wait to read more about. Kathleen Early is superb once again in her narration. Between the writing and narration, it doesn't get any better.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Outstanding & highly entertaining
Revisado: 07-20-23
As a rabid consumer of both books & audiobooks, I try to keep branching out into new subjects, into varied categories of writing, & trying on new writers. However, there are a handful of writers of whom it can be said that it's wise to scoop up their work as soon as its released, as you're going to eventually, so why kid yourself. Eggers, Atwood, & Kingsolver, to name a few. Demon Copperhead, over 500 pages to read and in excess of 21 hrs to listen to, is well worth the time invested.
I don't say that lightly, either. What it isn't is aw-shucks feel-good pap, nor is it sex or gore to delight and shock. Advertised as Dickensian for modern day, Caufield for the au courant, Demon has no sense of grandiloquence, but it also doesn't cause the reader to feel patronized. Kingsolver, once again, has written in such a way that the reader has the desire to stop to admire her work occasionally, to step outside oneself and hold it up to the light and feel satisfied that wonderful, important literature is still being written.

My stars! What a joy indeed!
Revisado: 01-04-22
I am just enthralled with the delightful world Mr Osman has created!
I haven't gasped, laughed, or cried this much while reading/listening in such a very long time.
My recommendation is to listen-or read.
They truly are characters we have in each of our lives. They sound like people you know. They are joyous, sad, cheeky, hilarious, ironic, lonely, wise, grateful, & utterly foolish.
But you probably will be sucked into wanting to know more & more & more, just as all the best stories do.

Man, I do love the Trent/Litton storyline.
Revisado: 07-03-20
I'm a fan of Slaughter's books, but I really like the Trent/Litton stories. That includes all the peripheral characters, such as the GBI & Litton family members. I think what I like most is that her characters aren't so one-dimensional. They aren't all good or all bad. There are good people who make a few poor decisions & terrible humans capable of occasionally making good choices. I especially like that I'm often surprised by what happens next. And DO NOT underestimate the power of good narration! I find time & again that great narration makes or breaks an audiobook, & this author (or her edotors) chooses wisely. Any book In this series is good for 10-15 hours of blissful escapism that keeps you glued to the story until the very end.

Historia
LAPD Lieutenant Milo Sturgis has solved a lot of murder cases. On many of them - the ones he calls "different" - he taps the brain of brilliant psychologist Dr. Alex Delaware. But neither Alex nor Milo are prepared for what they find on an early morning call to a deserted mansion in Bel Air. This one’s beyond different. This is predation, premeditation, and cruelty on a whole new level. Four people have been slaughtered and left displayed bizarrely and horrifically in a stretch limousine. Confounding the investigation, none of the victims seems to have any connection to any other.
