Historia
If you don’t understand communist revolutions, you aren’t ready for what’s coming. The old rules are over. The old order is over. Accusations are evidence. Activism means bigotry and hate. Criminals are allowed to roam free. Citizens are locked up. An appetite for vengeance is unleashed—to deplatform, debank, destroy. This is the daily news, yet none of it’s new. Patterns from the past make sense of our present. They also foretell a terrifying future we might be condemned to endure.

Mis information, misunderstanding of history
Revisado: 08-14-24
The first chapter was a perfect description, not of “communists” as claimed, but rather of the last 8 years of Trump/Maga behaviour. Listen to it again if you missed it. The historical inaccuracies were too numerous to list. One example—the claim that if you were enrolled in college you could avoid the draft. Not true. I was in college then and personally knew guys drafted for Vietnam. Also the claim of older professors being fired. Tenure made that impossible. “Cultural Marxism” predominating is also false, whatever he means by that term. Marx described accurately how capitalism works, with capital flowing to the owners of production, thus creating severe economic imbalance and hardship for the actual workers who produce the wealth, and massive wealth at the very top (unless the owner was endowed with a strong ethical and moral code to treat his workers well). Marx also described accurately the hierarchical power structure of the family. Communism made the mistake of not acknowledging the creative, innovative and motivating role a profit oriented system like capitalism can produce. But equally, capitalists fail to acknowledge the role of socialistic programs and systems that balance out those economic imbalances, thus avoiding massive disruptions and potential revolutions. Thanks to FDR, after the depression caused by unregulated capitalism, America learned its lesson and passed the social security act and other programs to create a safety net and more equitable situations for working people. Without taxation of the wealthy and regulations of corporations I firmly believe this country would not have gotten this far without a serious revolution. There would be no middle class. This book, by calling Affirmative Action, Women’s studies, etc. “grievance studies”, as if there is no basis in fact to the inequities still existing, and lately increasing in terms of the economics, healthcare, etc. and to equate it with communism is just plain ignorant. No one proposes nationalizing industry in America as Communism would do. . Putin nationalized much in Russia, but kept control and profits for himself and his friends. Is he a communist? No, he’s basically a fascist. Those are the people you should be concerned about. This book is a very misleading and dangerous book because it sets up a conflict where cooperation and respect should exist. It’s a recipe to tear this country apart. Do you want that? I hope not.

Historia
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

Poor delivery and repetitive
Revisado: 07-01-22
The topic was interesting with some good information. But too much was repetitive and the narrator kept mispronouncing the word anesthesia, which was used very often so quite annoying and distracting. There are better books on the subject like “After”.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

Excellent and Essential reading
Revisado: 09-29-21
Wow! This book opened my eyes like no other about the history of racism in the US. It’s very well researched and written in such a way as to give one a real experience of what being a person of color has been like in America. A real shocker, and I am not a naive or uninformed person. This is a must read.
