I decided to listen to this book after following some online tutorials for exercises to reset the vagus nerve and calm the nervous system. Each video I saw credited their exercises to this book and it's author. It offers an accessible, detailed explanation of understanding cranial nerves as key to our psychological and physical well-being. It also provides easy to follow simple exercises to help yourself at home. The instructions are clear and concise, with detailed diagrams and photographs for support. I have been very pleased with the positive effects I have noticed from following them. I find the theory fascinating. I would recommend this book to anyone who wishes to explore how the vagus nerve regulates our bodies and wants to learn quick, effective means to reset it.

I have always believed in the food pyramid. Forget about it. listen to this book and understand.
At certain times it gets very suggestive and detailed and I really appreciated it, even for a nurse. But, it is well worth those few parts.
After my numbers on the scale and bloodwork kept creeping up, my doctor recommended this book and In addition to working on my body, work on my mind.
24 pounds later, my numbers are good and MOST importantly I FEEL so much better!

Love this structure of this book. It’s basically a manual so you can turn to any page to find a tip for how you can prioritize black women self-care when you’re feeling low or in need of black women empowerment. I also appreciate that the author talks to the reader as if she is their (sister)friend and the attention she pays to unpacking misogynoir and the many ways it shows up for us. My main criticism is that some of the tips do a get a little repetitive and could have been fleshed out more/ less broad. That said, I’ll definitely take parts of what I learned here with me and hope this book is able to touch a lot of people

AN EXCELLENT RESOURCE. The author of this series of books does an excellent job of explaining what codependency recovery and narcissist abuse is, helping the reader to identify them and deal with them. For those who are not lucky enough to escape such toxic relationships early enough, the damage can be significant, including the development of PTSD. This condition is a complex one that the author explains, outlines the sign of and provides cogent advice on living with and recovering from. This book is an excellent resource for anyone who even senses they may be dealing with these issues.

I had a lot of anxiety and fear due to being bullied at school. I have listened to many different guided meditations but this book was great! The meditations are very easy to listen to and they really hit home and help you with your fear anxiety panic and I was able to be comforted and sleep well. The one thing that was new that I learned, was about the hypnosis, I was very skeptical about even trying the section with hypnosis, but once I gave in and opened my mind to the hypnosis, it put my anxiety at ease, these techniques are good for everyday, start, middle and end your day with the book.
lastly,i have improved on my meditation. and as a result I have reduced stress and overthinking . I can say that my mental health is becoming more strong and relaxed. I can now concentrate while meditating .
LOVE THE BOOK

Women with ADHD

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 10-18-22

This guide asks you to face those challenges of ADHD and accept that while we are different, different doesn’t mean bad or worthless or less than. Our ADHD traits may actually benefit us in many ways. Solden and Frank give us lessons from their own experiences as well as others. Each chapter addresses something that is common amongst women with ADHD, though we each may manifest it differently. The chapters ask questions. Questions that make you think about what it might be that you are locking away or avoiding because of your ADHD. It is a new and radical way of approaching ADHD.

“Women hide not from judgement itself but from the anticipation of pain, disappointment, and disconnection. While it seems that acts of hiding protect us from such discomfort and pain, these protective behaviors exact a large price as we diminish our own light. Instead of blocking and protecting, hiding actually keeps us farther away from what we long for.”

This particular passage resonated with me. This is only one of the many passages that will resonate with women who live every day with their ADHD.

If you are one of those women, or living with one, I highly recommend this book. It has changed me (baby steps) for the better. I will continue to use it as a workbook to try to gain more acceptance of my differences in my every day life. I can’t recommend this book enough.

Stop overthinking

Revisado: 09-28-22

As someone who struggles with major anxiety and overthinking, I picked this book up shortly after I started going to therapy. The techniques shared in this book are easy to follow, thoroughly explained, and direct. I rated this one four stars only because after a while, towards the end, it started to get a little slow and drawn out. Other than that, I think this is a great book to start with for tackling anxiety and overthinking!
Provides helpful tips on slowing fast paced thinking and controlling negative thoughts, which we all seem to have flair up on occasion with social media, work, stress, etc. This book isn’t groundbreaking. But, there is lots of value from the methods and examples on how to destress and be easier on yourself. This book is something you can have and look for to help ease your mind and practice bettering your life. I enjoyed and would recommend.

If you want a brief introduction into narcissistic mothers with some tips on how to recover from their negative effects then this book is for you. When I say brief I really mean it. Is that a bad thing? No, definitely not. It is far from an in-depth account on the role narcissistic mothers have in the trauma of children and their arrested development. The tips given will play a role in your recovery but I still believe that one should have a solid understanding on how trauma affects the body and brain particularly in children. The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel van der Kolk would be a good book for this. Recovery from CPTSD is a little more than just journaling and positive thinking (although good techniques in recovery) which seems to be a central theme of the tips provided in this book. In saying this, Caroline really does pack the pages with just enough information to begin your recovery from the negative effects of narcissistic mothers. And this information is important for everyone including those who have not been affected by narcissistic mothers.

Because of the brief nature of this book, it would be excellent for when you need a reminder on certain topics, for example the three roles assigned to children by a narcissistic mother. Each section is neatly laid out which allows for quick access to the particularly bits of information one requires in that moment. Although the way the book is written is very simplified and at times is repetitive and lacks good vocabulary, it really doesn't take away from the message being delivered and that is important. The way Caroline has written this works and she does mention how the book is written right at the beginning. It was meant to be this way. It is very easy to read and this supports the notion that the book is meant to be picked up quickly when you need reminding about something on narcissist mothers
