Historia
At the dawn of the twentieth century in Paris, Samantha Harker, daughter of Dracula's killer, works as a researcher for the Royal Society for the Study of Abnormal Phenomena. But no one realizes how abnormal she is. Sam is a channel into the minds of monsters: a power that could help her solve the gruesome deaths plaguing turn-of-the-century Paris—or have her thrown into an asylum.

Rating: 4.25⭐️
This book my dude! THIS BOOK! This should be a movie because of how intricate and detailed it was. I loved the adventure, the gore, gothic and spookiness of this story and how everything interconnects. Even though it has a very seen before kind of story and characters, I see and loved their differences to other characters we have seen before and how their world works. I really liked Sam and Hel together, their unusual and complicated partnership shows us two women that are considered insane or rotten, become the ones that change everything for their world but also, their own lives and what they believed of themselves. This is a feminist call to women to remind us that we can be anything we want even when the world tells us we are historical and NOT MADE FOR something other than being what society thinks we should be. This book was so good and I really hope everyone reads this and loves it as much as I do. This being a movie or a TV series would ABSOLUTELY KILL 🖤
Did I mention this is a DEBUT?????? Yep, yep!

Historia
Catalina de Cerrato is being raised by her widowed father, Don Alonso, in 1551 Guatemala, scarcely thirty years since the Spanish invasion. A ruling member of the oppressive Spanish hierarchy, Don Alonso holds sway over the newly relegated lower class of Indigenous communities. Fiercely independent, Catalina struggles to honor her father and her late mother, a Maya noblewoman to whom Catalina made a vow that only she can keep: preserve the lost sacred text of the Popol Vuh, the treasured and now forbidden history of the K’iche’ people.

It was good but, not what it promised
Revisado: 08-27-24
I was so excited when this book was announced and I got the book because I wanted to learn more about Guatemala and how colonization and genocide affected the people. I found that this book promised too much but didn’t deliver. I didn’t think Catalina really grows as a character and this book has time jumps so, you would expect that made her become a mature/strong female character but no; she still didn’t peak her mind and got caught EVERYTIME she decided to do anything at all. The whole book thing should have been the focus of this story, not other things like the romance that came out of NOWHERE! ANYWAY, I really did enjoy some aspects of this book. The way they spoke about the influence of cristianity and the Spaniards coming to a community of indigenous beliefs and people, because that’s the experience we share as Latinx people with colonization. I really enjoyed the fact that we explored the inner workings of how the Spaniards worked; their inner turmoils and how politics plays a big part in how history and how people’s lives get changed in the process. Anyway, I really am looking forward to more from this author; hopefully more stories about Guatemala and their history.

Historia
Instant I Do could be Kris Zavala’s big break. She’s right on the cusp of really making it as an influencer, so a stint on reality TV is the perfect chance to elevate her brand. And $100,000 wouldn’t hurt either. D’Vaughn Miller is just trying to break out of her shell. She’s sort of neglected to come out to her mom for years, so a big splashy fake wedding is just the excuse she needs. All they have to do is convince their friends and family they’re getting married in six weeks. If anyone guesses they’re not for real, they’re out.

Historia
The great scholar, W. E. B. Du Bois, once wrote about the problem of race in America, and what he called “Double Consciousness,” a sensitivity that every African American possesses in order to survive. Since childhood, Ailey Pearl Garfield has understood Du Bois’s words all too well. Bearing the names of two formidable Black Americans—the revered choreographer Alvin Ailey and her great grandmother Pearl, the descendant of enslaved Georgians and tenant farmers—Ailey carries Du Bois’s problem on her shoulders.

Impactful
Revisado: 02-28-23
This book was long, heavy and raw. It is filled with family history, trauma, generational trauma, talk of slavery and how the dynamics of power, gender and race have an influence in how we act in our society. This book is so important and I enjoyed hearing this book through the amazing narrator and, to learn all the families stories. This was exquisite.

Needed to listen to this
Revisado: 02-13-23
I’ve been going through a best friend breakup myself and, honestly, this was such a beautiful way to feel understood and listened to. I loved the way this book explored their friendship and how, everyone can make mistakes but, still, shows the beginning, the middle and the end of something or someone who was important to us and how, we have to move forward even if it’s hard and we miss them all the time. This was amazing and I will remember this book for a long time.

Extraordinary
Revisado: 01-30-23
This was such an amazing, heartbreaking and well written memoir.
I knew about this case from the news but, had no idea what had happened exactly. This was such an insightful look into all that transgressed in her life, her family and her experiencia with the system that doesn’t care about the truth and also, doesn’t give a damn about victims.

In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Such an impactful story
Revisado: 12-26-22
Viola Davis became one of my favorite actresses after interpreting Analisse Keating in HTGAW. I loved the show, the cast but, adored the way she portrayed that character. I didn’t know all of the struggles she experienced and the hustle it took to get to where she is right now as an award winning actress. I love her and hearing some of her story was compelling in a way that made me understand her way more and also get to know her as a person, not just Viola Davis the famous actress. Amazing, Compelling and Raw.

This was such a bad ending to this series. This isn’t the best series in the world, I didn’t very much love it but, I expected so much, and it didn’t deliver.
