Historia
In H. P. Lovecraft's classic horror story, an old man consents to a radio interview. In that interview a number of terrible truths come out: The truth about an expedition to Antarctica where everyone died horribly. The truth about an attempt to find the expedition's mysterious killers. The truth about a desolate plateau in the heart of a frozen continent. The truth about life and intelligence on Earth. And the truth about the prehistoric horror that still waits lurking...At the Mountains of Madness.

Thomas E Fuller at his best
Revisado: 01-05-18
A creative liberty taken by having the interview take place in 1946. Given that Lovecraft died in 1937. Although it makes better sense with the change historically and makes it more enjoyable and possibly relatable.
Every Character overflows with life and motivation. You can feel the tension and fear in the voices as things go wrong. The horror when things get worse is stiff with ample shock value. The insanity and sadness of it's ending left me with a strong sense of grief for the surviving characters. Very well written for audio and stayed true to the souce material save for the above liberty taken. Excellent performance of the actors and sound mixers. Thomas E Fuller was brilliant in his day. This particular recording lights a fire of interest in his other work.

Historia
Surely it is possible to outlive the past. Surely it is possible to outrun one's ancestors, to outrun history, to outrun fate. Surely a man's destiny lies in his own hands, and not in the misdeeds of men a hundred generations dead. Beware, England. The last Delapore has come home. This is a full-cast, soundscaped audio dramatization of a classic work by one of the masters of horror, featuring the voice of Harlan Ellison as Delapore.

Marvelous Performance

The Atlanta Radio Theater Company did an exemplary production of Lovecraft. This particular story has a touch of controversy with it's original source material given the original name of the Delapore Cat. Not willing to upset the audience, they brilliantly used a simple creative solution towards the old racist controversy. By doing so, it doesn't distract from the atmosphere of the story.
Additionally, every spoken word had my complete attention and the production did Lovecraft justice in demonstrating the insanity and horror of the story. Great set up, gripping fallow through, and an ending only Lovecraft fans can predict.
