Beautiful story!
Revisado: 10-20-22
What a beautiful book! I first read Ilima’s historical fiction about the Hawaiian Islands, “A Song for the Stars,” and loved, so much, it’s lyrical tenderness in the midst of fear and violence, that I started “Remake” without glancing at any reviews. When I discovered that it was about a dystopian society, I was at first disappointed: most of the dystopian books I have read are terribly negative and hopeless. But this was amazing! We needed to see the harsh structure of “Freedom City” to understand the true joy and freedom of family and nature outside with the “rebels.” There is softly a true God-centered view to be celebrated.

Totally delightful book!
Revisado: 09-28-22
Nina’s home, van, heart, and life are totally filled with books. She knows how to pair each person with just the right book to meet their own particular needs. She goes on a grand adventure, way out of her comfort zone, when she loses her job at the library, only to find even greater purpose and lovely romance in a little town in Scotland. Memorable characters. The Audible.com version is beautifully read by Lucy Price Lewis.

Historia
All theater romances are tragedies. Ella Blythe knows this. Still, she cannot help but hope her own story may turn out different than most - and certainly different than the tragic story of the Ghost of Craven Street Theater. Yet as she struggles to maintain her tenuous place in the ever-shrinking ballet company, win the attentions of principal dancer Philippe, and avoid company flirt Jack, Ella cannot deny the uncanny feeling that her life is mirroring that of the dead ballerina.

Revisado: 08-31-22
Such a lovely and moving story, set in the world of ballet. Broken and lost souls finding one another and bringing healing to abandoned hearts. The main character’s love for God and His Word permeate her thoughts in delightful ways. Sweet, clean romance.

She Only Wanted to Belong Somewhere
Revisado: 08-21-22
Excellent mystery with clean romance. A wealthy dysfunctional family doesn’t know what to do when an unsuspected “cousin” shows up and not only begins piecing together her own story, but also that of secrets in the family’s past. Her attempts to show care and concern for the arrogant family members seems to boomerang against her.

Historia
Desperate to escape from London, single mother Zoe wants to build a new life for herself and her four-year-old son Hari. She can barely afford the crammed studio apartment on a busy street where shouting football fans keep them awake all night. Hari’s dad, Jaz, a charismatic but perpetually broke DJ, is no help at all. But his sister, Surinder, comes to Zoe’s aid, hooking her up with a job as far away from the urban crush as possible: a bookshop on the banks of Loch Ness. And there’s a second job to cover housing: Zoe will be an au pair at a castle in the Scottish Highlands.

Delightful
Revisado: 06-24-22
The unique characters in this book keep following me around in my heart. Zoe, a single mom of a four-year-old who has never spoken a word, has to move out of her shabby London apartment. She gets hired on as a nanny in a huge old mansion on the shores of Loch Ness in Scotland, as well as taking on a part time job as a mobile book shop operator. Two of her three charges have been expelled from school for fighting, and their often absent single father has basically given up on getting any kind of routine or order in their lives. The grumpy old housekeeper serves as the uninvolved babysitter between nannies. The struggles and tragedies they all face try Zoe’s patience to a frazzle, but her determination to make the best of things and bring joy to this household are inspiring. A lovely story.

Historia
Here is the kind of authentically detailed epic novel that has become Louis L’Amour’s hallmark. It is the compelling story of US Air Force major Joe Mack, a man born out of time. When his experimental aircraft is forced down in Russia and he escapes a Soviet prison camp, he must call upon the ancient skills of his Indian forebears to survive the vast Siberian wilderness.

What a great read this is!
Revisado: 05-12-22
A pilot major is downed in Siberia, slapped into prison, and manages to escape into the Siberian winter before they can get any information out of him. A huge manhunt is underway to recapture him, and his freezing treks through all manner of frozen forest mountains is fascinating. His survival skills were learned from his earliest boyhood, taught by his Sioux Indian father. His Scottish grandpa gave him light colored eyes, and tales of his own warrior background. Always a loner, Joe Mack still manages to make some friendships along the way, as he tries to keep ahead of the KGB. An awesome story. Beautifully read by David Strathairn, an actor you will likely recognize.

A mother’s dysfunctional past taints her relationships with her daughter.
Revisado: 02-24-22
I have loved most of Francine Rivers’s novels I have read, but the main mother/daughter relationship in this one is very frustrating and left me gritting my teeth, mostly because the mother did not not understand one particular daughter, whose temperament was entirely different than her own. The story was still captivating otherwise, except that it sort of left you hanging at the end, wanting at least an epilogue, until I realized it has a Book 2.
