Lorelei King - Finally!
Revisado: 01-04-25
I’ve been waiting years, for the only narrator worth listening to, for the first seven Stephanie Plum books. It’s been a long frustrating wait, but, finally, almost over. Hopefully. There’s no sign, yet, of Four to Score being done by Lorelei King, but my fingers are crossed for it to show up soon, so I can buy it and complete the series. I tried listening to other narrators, but they were far inferior, and far too irritating, to do the series justice. I read all the books many times, until my eyes became too light sensitive and I had to switch to audiobooks. I’ve had to only listen to the books after 7, until now. I’d almost given up hope of hearing the beginnings of Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter. Thank you!

Used to love this series, but getting very tired of Fae and Mab!
Revisado: 08-29-24
I miss the storylines of the earlier books. I want to see Harry and Molly back in the human wizarding world with Mouse, Mister and Bob back with Harry. It’s very disappointing to keep coming back to where they are. This is fantasy and it’s far from impossible to change the course of events to a more true and satisfying course. I’m not saying turn back time to the old basement apartment, but maybe an alternate realty where the She aren’t such a large part of their lives, or some twist to get them out. Harry, and now Molly, still stuck with the Faeries is getting very old. Set them free!

The world is no longer safe for the Dragon Rider Murtagh and his dragon, Thorn. An evil king has been toppled, and they are left to face the consequences of the reluctant role they played in his reign of terror. Now they are hated and alone, exiled to the outskirts of society. Throughout the land, hushed voices whisper of brittle ground and a faint scent of brimstone in the air—and Murtagh senses that something wicked lurks in the shadows of Alagaësia. So begins an epic journey into lands both familiar and untraveled.

Very dark and horribly depressing!
Revisado: 08-05-24
I looked forward to this book too much and procrastinated listening to it for fear I would be disappointed. I was right to hesitate. We knew that Murtagh and Thorn had terrible childhoods, but it seems that Murtagh couldn’t wait to put them both in imminent danger, mostly out of sheer boredom. He knew that wordless magic was going to be a problem and did absolutely nothing to prepare for it. My only gripe about Eragon was his penchant for rushing into deadly danger without even attempting to think first, then Murtagh does the same thing. It’s a little more believable when it’s a 15 or 16-year-old boy, but anyone who lived through it should have learned a little caution. Just being a dangerous person doesn’t mean that there aren’t any hazards left that should be prepared for, especially when your best friend is with you. It’s completely unrealistic to just walk into so many unknown situations, one after the other, with few, if any, safeguards. No matter how strong or deadly you think you are.
The imprisonment and ongoing torture and humiliation just topped off my general disappointment in this book. I loved the Inheritance Cycle, the world, the characters, the action and lighter moments. There is very, very little here that isn’t gloom and doom. I understand that Thorn and Murtagh are damaged and trying to heal, or should be trying to heal, but there has to be at least a little light and normalcy for that to happen. I very much hope that the next book will be more like the first four.

O.K. Story - Not funny
Revisado: 01-08-24
Worth listening to, but a distant second to Stephanie Plum. Hopefully this series will improve in the second installment. There is a distinct lack of humor that I’ve come to expect in Janet Evanovich’s books. Lorelei King is as good as ever, although Rafer sounds suspiciously like Joe Morelli.

Don’t buy this book unless you WANT to be depressed! Extremely disappointing!
Revisado: 12-24-23
Loved the previous books, hated this one. If I wanted to be depressed for hours, I’d watch the news. I listen to books to be entertained and escape the real world. This book was certainly not worth the time invested in listening and crying and wishing I’d never heard of it. There are always some grim parts in the type of work done by the FBI K-9 unit, but this book is a slog through hell. Very little time is invested in the protagonists compared to the horrors of collapsing high-rise buildings. It’s too much like 9/11 on a smaller scale.

WAY too much information about tea!
Revisado: 12-21-23
I have enjoyed the fantasy and mystery of this series, although the, sometimes, too precious quality and slow pace of the narration is extremely irritating. This seems to be worst at the beginning of the books when Zoe is starting her day, but recurs occasionally in the course of the stories. Julia Motyka is very talented and otherwise enjoyable to listen to, but between the excessive lecturing about tea and the overly slow pace of Zoe’s calm interludes, this book induces the opposite of calmness in me. I’ll just have to remember to up the speed next time to get through the sections that drag. It sounds more like Zoe is on drugs than just calm and at peace.

All right, already, they’re gay. It’s Greek mythology, learn to pronounce Greek names!
Revisado: 10-05-23
I love the Percy Jackson books, but this book leaves a lot to be desired. I made it to chapter 12 and just had to give up. There’s very little story here and a lot of emphasizing how very gay these characters are, and re-emphasizing, while having many disconnected nightmares. Even though I wanted to learn Bob’s fate it just wasn’t interesting enough to bother. And please, please, narrators learn how to pronounce the Greek words before recording the books! It’s just distracting and almost painful to hear the massacred names.

Interesting story, disappointing narration.
Revisado: 07-22-23
Getting Katrina’s backstory and more current activities is interesting and would have been much more enjoyable with the same narrator that I’ve been listening to for years. The voices are all wrong and very jarring, making it impossible to immerse myself in the tale being told. The very different pronunciations of names and some other words just makes it worse. Didn’t Ms. Ganser even bother to listen to any of the other books? Additionally, some of the men sound like women and many times I was trying to figure out who said what. Being constantly irritated by the inconsistencies made it a test of endurance to reach the end. Love this series, but this entry is very disappointing and barely worth the trouble. I would buy it again if James Patrick Cronin narrated.

Just as good as the Dispatcher. Both stories left me wishing that they were full-length novels. The premise of victims of violence reappearing alive and well, immediately following death, is intriguing and keeps the reader guessing. And, of course, Zachary Quinto is a pleasure to listen to.

Action-packed and inspiring!
Revisado: 05-16-21
This book is addictive and practically impossible to pause. The story is compelling and Emily Woo Zeller is one of my favorite narrators. Her various characters are distinctive, easily understood, and, almost as good, I didn’t hear a single mispronounced word that, for me, interrupts the flow of the whole experience. I’ll be purchasing the next in the series just after clicking submit.
