I don't know how many times I've read and/or listened to the Hobbit and LOTR; my connection with them goes back at the very least 35 years - and I would read all four at least once a year. And when 'listening' became the better way (because with a physical book the only other thing I could do at the same time was ... eat! 😆) it would often be twice a year.
At any rate, I've 'read' the 4 books more times than I can remember - and each time I get as easily lost in them ... it's as though I were there: with Bilbo, and Gandalf, and Frodo and friends - experiencing it all (though MUCH more comfortably!).
I'll never tire of them. SO thankful for Tolkien's imagination and incredibly detailed work - creating such a complex and wonderful tale!

Historia
Gene Kranz was present at the creation of America's manned space program and was a key player in it for three decades. As a flight director in NASA's Mission Control, Kranz witnessed firsthand the making of history. He participated in the space program from the early days of the Mercury program to the last Apollo mission, and beyond. He endured the disastrous first years when rockets blew up and the United States seemed to fall further behind the Soviet Union in the space race.

Well-written, well-narrated, a stirring performance of a period I lived through. All the behind-the-scenes excitement, despair, setbacks, and triumphs we didn't know about at the time. So glad it was available in audio so I could experience it. Thanks, Gene!

Historia
In April 1970, during the glory days of the Apollo space program, NASA sent Navy Captain Jim Lovell and two other astronauts on America's fifth mission to the moon. Only 55 hours into the flight of Apollo 13, disaster struck: a mysterious explosion rocked the ship, and soon its oxygen and power began draining away. Written with all the color and drama of the best fiction, Apollo 13 (previously published as Lost Moon) tells the full story of the moon shot that almost ended in catastrophe.

Revisado: 09-07-23
This was a masterpiece. Listened almost nonstop - interrupting only for absolutely necessary tasks. I was working, married, with relatives nearby, so didn't see much of the beginning coverage (skimpy as it was) but was aware of the problem, and fearful for the crew ... and so happy when they returned safely.
But this ... this was like sitting in a corner in the control room, experiencing everything just as the controllers - and crew - did. A thoroughly gripping tale, with a great narrator. It's one I'll listen to again and again.
Thanks, everyone involved!

Historia
Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner first crossed paths as actors on the set of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Little did they know that their next roles, in a new science-fiction television series, would shape their lives in ways no one could have anticipated. In 79 television episodes of Star Trek and six feature films, they grew to know each other more than most friends could ever imagine. Over the course of half a century, Shatner and Nimoy saw each other through personal and professional highs and lows.

Revisado: 07-11-23
This was a wonderful tribute to a phenomenal man. 'Spock' is probably my most favorite fictional character ... at least I can't think of ANYONE higher on my list. And of course, Leonard Nimoy WAS Spock. He made the character come alive, and I thought of Spock as a friend - a best friend, the friend I'd most like to spend time with, the friend I'd go to with my troubles.
He was an inspired creation, and I'm so glad that Leonard fought to keep that creation true to his vision of that character.
Thanks, Mr. Shatner, for a fitting tribute to a great man and terrific actor.

Historia
In April of 1846, 21-year-old Sarah Graves, intent on a better future, set out west from Illinois with her new husband, her parents, and eight siblings. Seven months later, after joining a party of pioneers led by George Donner, they reached the Sierra Nevada Mountains as the first heavy snows of the season closed the pass ahead of them. In early December, starving and desperate, Sarah and 14 others set out for California on snowshoes and over the next 32 days endured almost unfathomable hardships and horrors.

Staggering!
Revisado: 10-05-22
Of course I knew about the tragedy of the Donner party - from history class at school? - but had never read about it (I chose the title after finishing "The Boys in the Boat" - a terrific tale!). What a horrible story of ambition and greed by Hastings, and it seems he had no remorse at all.
And what a story of determination and courage by the emigrants, overcoming so many trials and setbacks - including among their own group. I can't even conceive of the THOUGHT of embarking on such a journey ... heading with all I own into the unknown on such a trek.
At story's end I felt like I personally knew those people, and cried as they suffered through the hardships of those months. Glad I know more about their story.
Highly recommended!

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Great story!
Revisado: 08-28-22
Took some minutes to really get into it, trying to keep track of names and relationships, but then my attention was riveted - it was as if I were living alongside those people, involved in their lives, their struggles, their dreams. Great narrator; Mr. Herrmann really made it come to life. And the climax - the race at the Olympics - was just gripping; even though I KNEW they'd won, it was like I were standing there watching, in that wind, agonizing about their late start, willing them to make it, to catch up, to cross the line first. ... EXCELLENT tale, definitely a re-listen title; after one reading it's among my most favorite books.

The Dawn Treader is the first ship Narnia has seen in centuries. King Caspian has built it for his first voyage to find the seven lords, good men whom his evil uncle Miraz banished when he usurped the throne. The journey takes Edmund, Lucy, their cousin Eustace, and Caspian to the Eastern Islands, beyond the Silver Sea, toward Aslan's country at the End of the World.

Fun books. 😁
Revisado: 08-21-21
SO nice to have the Narnia books on Audible; so much easier to listen on phone than have to hold a physical book - plus can do housework, garden, play with cats. For many years I'd read 'Narnia' at least once a year, maybe more, and even CDs aren't as convenient: having to pull pack around to 'pause', or change discs. Audible versions are the best way to again immerse myself in these tales that I enjoy so very much!
Would be hard to choose which of the seven is my favorite, as they're all so enjoyable. ... I guess the only thing that would make them better is if the whole series could be read by the same narrator; that's MY preference. Oh well ...

Revisado: 08-19-21
I like to listen to stories I've enjoyed for many years but can no longer read in 'physical' form (wrist problems; besides which - the only other thing I can do while holding a book is ... eat!, and that's not a good plan! 😄). But Audible lets me enjoy a tale while accomplishing any number of other tasks, so it's a win-win!
A story I've loved for at least 40 years, a dynamic narrator, several hours of pleasure. Thanks!

He did write good stories

Even though I knew a lot of what was coming (from the movie), it was still suspenseful. While I myself couldn't remotely consider attempting such heroics, I can certainly lose myself in the story and believe in the heroes' resilience and stamina ... this is what I read books for!
The movie was good, but as usual - the book is better; besides, it lasts longer! 😁
