Historia
“You shouldn’t be here. It’s too late....” These, heard over the phone, were the last recorded words of successful celebrity-divorce lawyer Richard Pryce, found bludgeoned to death in his bachelor pad with a bottle of wine - a 1982 Chateau Lafite worth £3,000, to be precise. Odd, considering he didn’t drink. Why this bottle? And why those words? And why was a three-digit number painted on the wall by the killer? And, most importantly, which of the man’s many, many enemies did the deed?

Horrible attempts at female cop voice
Revisado: 09-05-24
Couldn't return this book because it wasn't a credit book. I got into the story for an hour/so and the female cop voice was so stupidly irritating that it wasn't worth continuing.

Different narrator please.
Revisado: 08-30-22
I've read or listened to all Redmond & Haze Mysteries...and they've all been very good.
I've not understood why a female narrator is reading books about two men. I can differentiate her voices between Redmond and Haze and she does a good job on the books. However, Lord Redmond is definitely sounding more like a prig as of the last 2 books. In other words, to me he's becoming more & more unlikable.
Change to a male narrator please.

Slow but I finished it.
Revisado: 05-25-22
This book is only 6.5 hrs in Audible length but I was ready for it to end about 4 hours into it. It's slow going. The ending was too accelerated with crammed in information. The adopted dog was the most interesting character. I love cozies but I'd recommend giving this one a miss.

Ever since, Emily and Madison have tried to forget what happened that night - until an eerily similar murder brings it all back.

Boring - didn't finish this book
Revisado: 05-07-21
I was looking forward to starting a new series but this book just didn't hold my interest. One reason it dragged was the focus of the protagonist on a trauma that occurred in her family 30 years ago. Time to grow up or at least spend some money on therapy. The only interesting character was Zander, the FBI agent. Sorry...I really wanted to like it but can't recommend wasting time on this book.

Really liked it!
Revisado: 06-21-20
I love detective stories, but usually "cozy" books. This book though really held my interest.. the plot was good & fast-paced...plus the characters interesting, especially Eve & Duncan. Also, there weren't so many characters that you can't keep track of all of them. Good read!

Historia
When an American tourist is murdered with a scone in Gemma Rose's quaint English tearoom, she suddenly finds herself apron-deep in a mystery involving long-buried secrets from Oxford's past. Armed with her insider knowledge of the university and with the help of four nosy old ladies from her local Cotswolds village (not to mention a cheeky little tabby cat named Muesli), Gemma sets out to solve the mystery - all while dealing with her matchmaking mother and the return of her old college love, Devlin O'Connor, now a dashing CID detective.

OK mystery - childish romantic idealism
Revisado: 07-03-18
Decent cozy mystery, although it would have been more of a novella if it wasn't for the sophomoric romantic angst.
Here's another protagonist who thinks it all about her. She lives rent-free (I assume) with her parents at 29 years old yet is highly irritated with her mother for interfering with her life. Maybe she'll start growing up when she's 39?
This protagonist is too irritating for me to continue w/the series.

It was OK.
Revisado: 06-26-18
The mystery was pretty good. The "bad guy" was who I'd hoped it would be. The numerous references to her father as "Pappa" was very irritating. It reminded me of a 1930's black & white film about any Italian family - it didn't fit with a middle aged female protagonist in a modern mystery.
I'd recommend this book for anyone interested in spending time listening to the sexually immature angst of a middle-aged woman.

OK but protagonist almost too flawed to care about

Any additional comments?
Pro: Interesting storyline.
Cons: The narrator's voice seems old & didn't fit the youth of the main characters.
The protagonist's female sergeant is much stronger & together than him...the protagonist seems to me to be in dire need of a therapist. He has good experience as a detective but too often fails to use it to his advantage & lapses into emotionality & victim.
Plus...he's a crappy puppy parent.

Historia
Murder in the 11th House is the first novel in the mystery series that introduces a unique character in the annals of detective fiction. Astrological detective David Lowell gets involved in a new case thanks to his daughter, a young defense attorney who believes that a murder suspect is innocent. A judge has been murdered in a New York City parking garage, and Joanna “Johnny” Colbert, a tough and mouthy bartender, is accused of the crime. Lowell’s daughter, Melinda, believes that her client has been wrongly accused.

I'm happy for the author that the majority of reviews were very favorable...but it just wasn't for me. The astrological component made it much more interesting than the book would have been without it.
The damsel in distress was unlikable. The protagonist was "fussy" & rather inflexible in his views of politics, lotteries & people who buy lottery tickets. The author spent an inordinate amount of time speaking to the "gambling problem"....thank you for the sermon but it doesn't make for entertaining reading in a mystery book.
The book was just interesting enough for me not to return it but I was ready for it to end.

One of the best books I've read/heard in the suspense/legal category!
Probably best to listen to vs to read due to the book length + the narrator is beyond excellent & adds much to the enjoyment of this book.
