overuse of simile, read by a decent robot
Revisado: 03-15-21
This book reads like an AI product — written by an algorithm someone trained to write novels; read by a decent-but-not-great artificial voice.
If this is the case, the AI reader is getting better - book two is read like a foreign speaker — doesn’t really understand the text, but at least isn’t an extraterrestrial.
But they should adjust the writing algorithm some — you don’t need to use a simile for every bloomin thought, sight, smell, minuscule event, and meta-observation.
But, it passes the time.

Cheap sci-fi, read by an alien. Listen if it is free.
Revisado: 03-05-21
The book is passable; the narrator...
His narration style is something between Capt. Kirk’s odd....placement....of....dramatic...pause and what it must be like listening to an extraterrestrial try to read in a human language they learned from a book. Yes, the words and phrases are sound, but the rhythm and emphasis and everything is.....off. And weird, and it distorts the story.
As for the story, it’s like that movie Armageddon— yes, it features spacecraft, but is otherwise written with essentially zero care to realism. Lots of vocabulary that sounds spiffy to non-sci-fi people, bandied about carelessly to further an awkward narrative.
It’s okay to pass some time of it comes with a subscription, but don’t spend any money on it.

Historia
This is the way the world ends, for the last time. The season of endings grows darker, as civilization fades into the long cold night. Essun - once Damaya, once Syenite, now avenger - has found shelter, but not her daughter. Instead there is Alabaster Tenring, destroyer of the world, with a request. But if Essun does what he asks, it would seal the fate of the Stillness forever. Far away, her daughter Nassun is growing in power - and her choices will break the world.

incredible performance of a fantastic story
Revisado: 11-02-18
The broken earth series is beautiful, intense, magical (no pun), inventive, and absolutely wonderful. Some of the best book(s) i’ve read for a long time.
But the performance of the narrator is, flat out, the best reading I’ve ever heard. No contest.
She brings out so much of the beauty and emotion and depth of the story. It wouldn’t be the same story with anyone else.
Get this and listen.
