Old bones...New people
Revisado: 07-28-14
A pile of bones is found and Pendergast shows to look into the find. This is the 3 book in the Pendergast saga and even though the storyline is a little out there the whole book was an enjoyable and delightful listen. I have enjoyed getting to know Pendergast even though these books are a little on the old side I am new to the series. They are not your standard, run of the mill mystery/murder novels which is a good thing. So if you can get beyond the out bounds type of storyline you should enjoy this book and if your already a fan of Pendergast you really wound be disappointed.

Historia
Your mission is to build an organization capable of dealing with men…Men who think they are above the law. Men who sow hatred and pain wherever they walk. Men who are evil.” That’s the call to arms for Vance, Ice, Mitch, and Bishop, a team of highly trained operatives who’ve gone rogue and formed PRIMAL, a global vigilante unit. They protect the innocent, punish the guilty, and wage war against terrorism, all in the name of justice. Their first target: the wealthy CEO of a powerful corporation—and a die-hard jihadist supporter—scheming to exterminate Western influence in the United Arab Emirates. Our four warriors challenge his murderous ambitions, turning the dark arts of clandestine ops against a seemingly untouchable evil. Success gives them access to new resources and new targets, and within a matter of days they’ve brought a Russian mafia cartel to its knees.

To Much stop and go,
Revisado: 07-28-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The storyline was good and the action was enough to keep the read/listener entertained throughout. But what I had to knock off stars for the choppy narration. I am not clear as to why the narration was so choppy whether it was part of the direction or the pattern of the narrators voice.
How could the performance have been better?
I felt the narration was choppy and a whole lot of stop and go "Sly" type of voicing. I think a smoother performance and presentation would have made for a more enjoyable listen and in fact I will be getting the next book in print because I don't think I could listen to another book by this narrator and I really liked the concept of good mercs going after bad people.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes, I enjoyed the concept of good people taking the fight to the bad. I think I will read the rest of the books in the series. I felt the characters were a little weak in this book but they were developed enough for me to want to find out more about what happens with Primal in the future.

Historia
In Eyes of Prey, Bekker, an insane pathologist who experiments with his patients’ pain thresholds, is finally brought down by an unrelenting Lucas Davenport, who brutally maims the doctor’s beautiful face but leaves him alive. “You should have killed me,” were Bekker’s parting and prophetic words.
In this sequel to Eyes of Prey, Bekker endures the indignities and horrors of imprisonment, taking comfort in the fact that it is only a matter of time before he will make Lucas Davenport pay.

Bekker's Back
Revisado: 07-28-14
Would you listen to Silent Prey again? Why?
Yes, I would enjoy listening and/or reading Silent Prey again in the future. This is the second time I have read/listened to the Lucas Davenport series. Silent Prey is one of the best early books in the series, Sandford is just getting his stride with this book. Character development and involvement in this story is well defined and used to keep the reader/listener interested from beginning to end even if you didn't know this was a follow up book.
What does Richard Ferrone bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Ferrone brings a smooth listening experience to this book and the others he has narrated. He is able to allow the listener just to sit back and listen to the story and thus the story develops independently of struggling to keep up with who is who and who is talking all the time. This is not true of all narrators and Ferrone is one of my favorites.
Any additional comments?
If you enjoy a book thriller with some background story involvement then you will enjoy any of the Lucas Davenport series, and if you new to listening to books then you can't go wrong listening to Richard Ferrone as one of your first narrators.

Historia
The “Prey” novels by Pulitzer prize-winning journalist John Sandford consistently make the best-seller lists, but they are not for the faint of heart. Featuring Minneapolis Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, these thrillers are raw, graphic, and impossible to put down. In Eyes of Prey, a depressed and unfocused Davenport takes on a macabre case, tracking down a serial killer who maims the eyes of his victims after he has murdered them.

Lucas is depressed...
Revisado: 04-27-14
If you could sum up Eyes of Prey in three words, what would they be?
Sad, Maddening, dramatic
What did you like best about this story?
Lucas is fighting the "Winter Blues" and as the story progresses he starts to heal and get better because of him finding a love interest. But the sad and maddening thing of this story is the loss of this love interest as she becomes one of the murders Davenport has to investigate
What does Richard Ferrone bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Ferrone allows the characters to have their own voices without over doing it. He is able to follow the dramatic twist and turns with his voice over so the listener is never out of touch with the tactile feel of the storyline as it happens. I look forward to continuing this series and hope MR Ferrone continues to narrate this series.

Headless Corpses and Mole People
Revisado: 04-27-14
This is the second book in the Pendergast series and it takes awhile for Pendergast to get involved but this allows the author to set up of the storyline for the listener/reader. This story starts out with the discovery of two skeletal remains found when the NYPD dive team searches for a bundle of heroin in a sewer runoff. The ghastly discovery ends up with DR Green and her former advisor DR Frock's Forensic Lab at the museum. Margo is still having haunting memories and dreams from the Museum Beast episode 18 months before this book starts.
We are introduced to several characters to name a few- Mephisto-the mole people king, Capt. Waxie-Lazy PD Officer, SGT Hayward-A gunho female NYPD officer. Each character is used to perfection to help the story continue along a twisting and turning dramatic conclusion.
If you enjoy mystery-thriller serials this book will be right up your alley. I loved it.

Good entry book for a young reader series
Revisado: 04-03-14
This is the beginning of Tom's story, his apprenticeship. Tom is nervous and prone to make mistakes and he has just made two of the worst of his early career and his not even sure he wants this career. Tom is the seventh son of a seventh son and he just was given the opportunity to apprentice with the Spook. What is a Spook you ask? He is the man deals with all that bumps in the night and wakes up children when they scream. But as the first month of his apprenticeship is finished Tom has made a mistake and hides it from the Spook. So after Tom fails to convince his mom to let him quit and move home he is left to deal with the mistakes by himself untrained as he is, so begins his adventures.
Delaney has brought a darker side of the young reader’s side of fantasy with this book and hopefully the next books in the series to come. As a reader from a young age of fantasy novels it’s nice to see some new ideas come out that I can share with my kids. Christopher Evan Welch does a great job of narrating this book and I look forward to listening to more books in which he narrates. I recommend this book to fantasy readers of all ages it is a quick read or listen with more to offer than it first appears to offer.

Historia
For months, Mitch Rapp has been steadily working his way through a list of men, bullet by bullet. With each kill, the tangled network of monsters responsible for the slaughter of 270 civilians becomes increasingly clear. He is given his next target: a plump Libyan diplomat who is prone to drink and is currently in Paris without a single bodyguard. Rapp finds him completely unprotected and asleep in his bed. With confidence in his well-honed skills and conviction of the man’s guilt, he easily sends a bullet into the man’s skull. But in the split second it takes the bullet to leave the silenced pistol, everything changes.

Revisado: 12-27-13
Sitting here writing this review is bittersweet. Yes, this was another good Mitch Rapp book. No, it wasn't the best, but unfortunately for me it will be the last. Due to the untimely death of Vince Flynn I will not get to enjoy anymore banter between Mitch and Irene or Hurley, and of course the late great Stansfield. But I digress; this book takes off after the events in American Assassin. Rapp is set out on his own to take down (ok, Kill, assassinated, eliminate, or whatever you want to call it) a list of known terrorist or associates/helpers of terrorist groups. Everything has been going just fine for Rapp, even his love life is looking up, until Paris and now his not sure who to trust or if he should trust anyone. During a routine even easy assassination Rapp is ambushed and starts to think that he is set up. In fact, he was set up just not by who he thought. Using the skills Hurley has taught him Rapp turns the tables and tries to find out if he was set up. Unfortunately, one of Hurley's own men goes above and beyond and tries to take out Rapp. After several tense days, Mitch reaches out to Irene and with Stansfield in tow the whole story comes out and true to Rapp, Hurley, and Flynn standards justice is swift and permanent. If you enjoy spy thrillers then you will like Vince Flynn and take it from some one who listened to all the books and you haven't read or listened to any start with "prequels" and start the originally published series I think you'll enjoy it.

Revisado: 12-21-13
What other book might you compare American Assassin to and why?
Being American Assassin is a prequel to an already established series it is hard to compare this to another series without comparing it to the series itself. Mitch Rapp is a man among men who has a no-nonsense look at life especially with the burning desire for retribution for his girlfriend's and many other's deaths during a terrorist attack. This book starts out as Rapp is recruited and trained for the future career as an off the books CIA wet man. He has to prove himself not only to instructors but in several incidents to himself that he can do this work and live through it.
Which scene was your favorite?
At the beginning of Rapp's training he tells Hurley "Let's get this over with." and in the next few paragraphs Hurley and Rapp beat each other bloody. Because according to Hurley this recruit without military training at worth his time, but in fact Hurley has to break his own rules and grab Rapp by the gonads to not lose the fight.
Any additional comments?
I have enjoyed listening to all of the Mitch Rapp series via Audible and Audible’s mobile App. I feel the narrator does a great job making each character different and discernible when listening for a long period of time and when your mind might wander briefly it is easy to catch back up. The material (plot) is relevant to now and really not something so unbelievable it's hard to follow. So if you enjoy military thrillers check out the Mitch Rapp series of books by Vince Flynn.
