BAD Production! Needs remastering / volume issues!
Revisado: 07-20-21
One moment you can barely hear the narrator, so you increase volume only to have her blow your eardrums the next moment. Has anyone ever heard of volume normalization or compression? We DO NOT want dynamic range for the reading of a book, particularly when the reader can't seem to maintain consistent volume, or distance from the microphone. Who produced this? It sounds like the narrator did and poorly at that with bad cuts too! Completely unprofessional and does not belong on audible. Clean up this production, it's a joke!

Neal Stephenson failed here.
Revisado: 08-20-19
The author failed on so many levels with this book and I was shocked, because I was so impressed by some of his other works, but certainly not "Fall; or, Dodge in Hell." The author takes so much for granted in creating this fiction, that it becomes entirely unrealistic and suspension of belief is completely lost and this happens several times, throughout the book. Additionally there are continuity errors (small ones), but still! This is a roundly known author! Does he just get a free pass now to write anything? Incidentally "Fall; or, Dodge in Hell." is WORSE than this book and the two don't seem to have anything to do with each other, but a character's name. Granted, new concepts are conveyed, but there's just now excuse for poor writing. I don't care how flowery the author's words and descriptions are, if the story-line is bad, the book shouldn't be written!

I cannot recommend this book enough. The writer is the reader and Jordan Peterson reads his work with honest true emotion and nearly perfect speech.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Great concepts, but the ending puttered out.
Revisado: 11-03-17
I believe the narrator failed to properly transition between actual narration and character voices. Effective use of pauses would have prevented blurring of lines. It seemed as though the author had difficulty wrapping up this novel. It felt as though it droned on at the end, however I was impressed by the conveyance of new technological concepts: ASI, vs. AGI, vs. AI and it appeared as though the author did do his homework. It was worth the use of a credit and I will be keeping the book, but I would suggest better narration. It is possible that the narrator may have puttered out at the end, along with the story.

Audible is not the place for slurred speech.
Revisado: 10-27-17
Poorly read, poorly written. This book does not belong is the audible library: it seems it would be better to have as a reference as that is mostly what the book is doing: referencing studies. I have pre-ordered the cookbook in hard-cover. Some books were just meant to be BOOKS.

Historia
Nothing ever changes in Sanders. The town's still got a video store, for God's sake. So why doesn't Eli Teague want to leave? Not that he'd ever admit it, but maybe he's been waiting - waiting for the traveler to come back. The one who's roared into his life twice before, pausing just long enough to drop tantalizing clues before disappearing in a cloud of gunfire and a squeal of tires. The one who's a walking anachronism, with her tricorne hat, flintlock rifle, and steampunked Model A Ford.

Food for thought or thoughtless food?
Revisado: 10-15-17
The book was good, but the "slick spots" were just too non-descript to suspend disbelief.
As to the narration: I applaude the narrator's efforts to emulate various voices, but are these not the blanks our imaginations are supposed to fill in? If character voices are going to be used, wouldn't it be better for a female to read female lines? Amazon certainly has a budget for that. I know this isn't radio theater,so then why are narrators increasingly attempting to make it so? For the price Audible/Amazon charges for audible books, I can't help but think many times, that I might just be better off buying a significantly cheaper Kindle version and have a robot read the text, because my imagination's version of what Harry might sound like is far more appealing than what my brain could only accept as a bad transvestite, before difficultly coloring over the narrator's voice. Again: I applaud the narrator's efforts as I believe he was working with the only tool he was given, his voice, but perhaps it would be better to simply read the book aloud
rather than emulate characters? Redundantly...If you're going to use character voices, then why not go all the way with different voices to FIT each character?
