Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Historia
Hundreds of years ago, the Selkies made a deal with the sea witch: they would have the sea for as long as she allowed it, and when the time came, she would call in all their debts at once. When the Luidaeg - October "Toby" Daye's oldest and most dangerous ally - tells her the time has come for the Selkies to fulfill their side of the bargain, and that Toby must be a part of the process, Toby can't refuse. Literally. The Selkies aren't the only ones in debt to the Luidaeg, and Toby has to pay what she owes like anyone else.

Historia
From the best-selling author of Atonement, Nutshell is a classic story of murder and deceit, told by a narrator with a perspective and voice unlike any in recent literature. A bravura performance, it is the finest recent work from a true master. To be bound in a nutshell, see the world in two inches of ivory, in a grain of sand. Why not, when all of literature, all of art, of human endeavour is just a speck in the universe of possible things?

complete twaddle, except the reader
Revisado: 02-28-17
Somebody really is taken with themself. In this case, it's the author.
What he intends to be shocking, i.e. the fetal Hamlet's head being banged by his uncle's man parts while he and Trudy couple is just gross. Not shocking. Just ewww. This whole book was like listening to an author talk about his writing skill while he's masturbating in a particularly seedy back alley.
The one bright spot is Rory Kinnear's narration. He's got a beautiful voice and perfect delivery. Even though what he's stuck delivering is a whiny, poncy, ridiculous proto-Hamlet. More Rory, please!

This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

More reading gravitas would be nice
Revisado: 02-22-17
While I thoroughly enjoyed the story, in this case I didn't like this reader reading it. Don't get me wrong, he's a good reader and I would listen to a different book read by him, but he didn't bring the depth to Kvoth's world that I think would have made things shine. I was wanting to hear someone a bit more world weary. Someone with wisdom in his voice. This reader sounded young and a little squirrely.

flawed recording.
Revisado: 12-08-16
Liked finishing out this series, but the editor was so bent on taking out any audio gaps that frequently the sound of the first letter was missing from many sentences in the recording. became very annoying over time.
