Historia
When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, one girl spoke out. Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education. On Tuesday, October 9, 2012, when she was fifteen, she almost paid the ultimate price. She was shot in the head at point-blank range while riding the bus home from school, and few expected her to survive. Instead, Malala's miraculous recovery has taken her on an extraordinary journey from a remote valley in northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations in New York.

Mixed Review
Revisado: 04-18-19
The story is horrifying & inspiring. It’s unfortunate that it is read by someone, other than the subject. As a result, it sounds like a newscast, rather than a deeply personal and moving account. There is no discernible vocal variety, which causes the story to be less compelling. It therefore, discounts, what could be, a call to action, to every listener. I listened at 1.25 speed, avoiding the pacing issues, described by others. Nonetheless, it is informative, especially for those of us less educated about Pashtun social norms, Islam, fortunate enough to live in countries, safer from extremists.

Passionate, earthy, deeply affecting, The Red Tent combines rich storytelling with a valuable contribution to modern fiction: a vibrant new perspective of female life in the age that shaped present day civilization and values.
If you like The Red Tent, try The Harlot by the Side of the Road, a recounting of some of the most startling and explicit writings from The Old Testament.

Bí mah? Seriously?
Revisado: 09-24-17
Narrator must not know a single Jew or, feel comfortable calling a synagogue and learning how to pronounce words unknown to her. Having said that, the book was, itself, one-sidedly critical of all aspects of Jewish life and Jewish characters. Sophisticated writers generally develop characters more complex than all good or all bad. Too bad, this story had greater potential than this writer realized. Descriptions of various couples having sex where described in language one may have read in romance novels. There were some interesting characters and settings. This could have been so much more.

Easy listen.

Fairly predictable outcome. There were areas where the narrator broke down plot issues that I'd have thought an adult, processing average intelligence, could figure out for themselves. The book was average.

Historia
As the Titanic and her passengers sank slowly into the Atlantic Ocean after striking an iceberg late in the evening of April 14, 1912, a nearby ship looked on. Second Officer Herbert Stone, in charge of the midnight watch on the SS Californian sitting idly a few miles north, saw the distress rockets that the Titanic fired. He alerted the captain, Stanley Lord, who was sleeping in the chartroom below, but Lord did not come to the bridge.

Eh!

At first I thought the story dull. I stuck with it, for a book club discussion and, began to think the story was better than the narration, which seemed uninspired. But, for book club, I would've returned the book.

Historia
Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

DARK!! Really dark!
Revisado: 09-03-16
The story is awful. I don't mean poorly written, just bleak. Not sure if there is a hero. I listened to the book for an upcoming book club. I'm glad its over. That seems to serve as evidence of the crafting of the story and characters. The ending may have been more interesting if Libby's outcome had been different. Maybe the author took pity on this listener.
