Early M.C. Beaton beware!

Any additional comments?

I've tried these early Marion Chesney (M.C. Beaton) Regency romances before and found them to be mostly very poor. I tried this because of the 4 stars and good reviews. I shouldn't have. The writing is bad. It is a miserable Georgette Heyer rip-off.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not particularly. Not very amusing, entertaining or enlightening.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Hardly a surprise

Would you listen to another book narrated by Simon Prebble?

Yes

Could you see The Dog Who Came in from the Cold being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No

Any additional comments?

I don't think this is as good as the first book in the series, which was OK, not great. The story is the major problem. It is farfetched. Not much goes on and there isn't much character development. It's boring. I wouldn't listen to any more in the series.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The premise was good and original. The beginning of the book was good, then it degenerated into boring make-believe futuristic technology. The narration was fine. Not recommended.

Big Brett fan, but this series fails

What would have made Blotto, Twinks and the Riddle of the Sphinx better?

Several things didn't add up. Twinks can read heiroglyphs, but doesn't know where the valley of the kings is. A sarcophagus isn't going to fit in any car-possibly a coffin, but never a sarcophagus.

This series is humorous. This is the second in the series I have listened to. At first the humor is new and enjoyable, but after sooo many repeats, it gets old.

Would you ever listen to anything by Simon Brett again?

yes

Any additional comments?

I'd highly recommend Simon Brett's other 2 series and he is a great narrator.
