Historia
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

Great narrator, story not worth it
Revisado: 11-19-24
If you’re just looking for another listen to for it, the narration makes the book enjoyable.
The plot is intriguing enough that I finished the whole thing, but the way people were hyping this book up I had higher expectation for the writing. Poor world building and seems like things were just thrown together, author tried to tie some things together at the end but just felt messy
Very sexually graphic, and lusty and some people said it was necessary for the story.. but it’s not. Should def be aware of what your getting into with this book
Enemy’s to lovers is not accurate either. Saeris essentially hates kingfisher for little to no reason immediately and clings on to it unnecessarily
Things to like- the side characters: Ren, Loretta, Carrion and cute pet fox
Somewhat unique ending twist.
But overall don’t recommend the story
Do recommend the narrators

Historia
This book is in many ways a memoir, but it’s also an attempt to wake up the listener to the glory of God shining through his creation. One of the first commands to Adam and Eve was to “work and keep” the garden. Award-winning author and songwriter Andrew Peterson, being as honest as possible, shares a story of childhood, grief, redemption, and peace by walking through a forest of memories

A memoir wrapped in the presence of trees and their creator
Revisado: 05-09-23
Andrew Peterson is gifted with words and his story is beautifully told, and compels the reader to look at creation as a gift, breath in the fresh air and to taste and see that the Lord is good. It’s an honest boon where Peterson describes very vulnerable and broken moments, and I found it to be encouraging and refreshing to read.

why a three
Revisado: 09-13-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
honestly not even sure why i'm giving it a three and not a two or a one, maybe because i'm a fan of the authors.. and figured I must have missed something due to the performance. Wouldn't recommend
How could the performance have been better?
Not that she was hard to listen to, but her dramatization of the characters made the main girl seem so whiney I hated her from the start, and her eventual love interest, and character I did like, but the voice made him seem so much older and gruff it was hard to imagine them ever being together.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
unlikely

Not Rivers best work
Revisado: 07-04-16
It could be because of the performance. Mary Catherine's part was painful to listen to, I found myself wanting to skip most of her part. Sierras part was mostly well written.
This book however is the only one of Francine Rivers books that I'd likely not recommend. I give her four stars because the message is true and for some a story of adulatory and marriage recovery it could be just the thing to help them, and I respect Rivers rule and heart.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

Great Story, hard to follow
Revisado: 04-27-16
What did you love best about The Golem and the Jinni?
Overall this is a great story and would recommend it! The performance had a good narrator, my problem with it is the story switches between characters often. and if you aren't 100% focused as you listen, its difficult to tell when it is switching scenes, especially in the first several chapters as the reader is still being introduced to characters and time frames.
Good story, just not one that is easily listened to while multi tasking.
