Historia
Separated by 10 years, 3,000 miles, and the unrelenting stresses of adulthood, best friends Janet and Serena plan a 40th birthday girls’ trip to reconnect. But after a massive crash, they’re the only survivors to wash ashore on an uncharted Caribbean Island. Armed with only the clothes on their backs and zero survival skills, they fight to overcome hunger, thirst, deadly wildlife—and most terrifyingly—decades of accrued resentment. Can they find their way home, or will they kill each other first?

Historia
For the prostitutes of Leather Lane, nurse Hester Monk’s clinic is a lifeline, providing medicine, food, and a modicum of peace—especially welcome since lately their ailments have escalated from bruises and fevers to broken bones and knife wounds. At the moment, however, the mysterious death of railway magnate Nolan Baltimore in a sleazy neighborhood brothel overshadows all else. Whether he fell or was pushed, the shocking question in everyone’s mind is: What was such a pillar of respectability doing in a seedy place of sin?

Historia
Rosalind Thorne may not have a grand fortune of her own, but she possesses virtues almost as prized by the haut ton: discretion, and a web of connections that enable her to discover just about anything about anyone. Known as a "most useful woman," Rosalind helps society ladies in need--for a modest fee, of course--and her client roster is steadily increasing.

Really Good Story, but…
Revisado: 10-18-24
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the earlier books in this series. Interesting, well-written and entertaining without being too deep or too light. My overall rating this time is lower because, while the new narrator’s performance is okay, I feel the voice personalities just don’t fit the story setting - and most especially for the main character. I also didn’t know (or like as much) this Rosalind. The connections with the previous books were lost.

Could there be a connection to Sylvia’s father? With a magical mystery on her hands, Sylvia engages the help of Gabe Glass, and together they follow the clues to the location of two hidden ledgers that implicate a very dangerous individual in an illegal bookmaking scheme.

Enjoyable but…
Revisado: 09-04-24
I’ve enjoyed the Library series so far but have to say it’s not much of a spinoff from the Glass & Steele series (loved it!). Except for name changes, Gabe and Sylvia are copies of Matt and India in familiar situations. The other favorite primary characters from Glass & Steele are here unchanged 20+ years later, protecting Gabe the same as they did Matt. Willy’s strident 1-note personality is tiresome now and could use a little aging since there’s so much of her. These comments aside, the narrator’s performance is 5-star and the story is inventive and engaging enough to be well worth the time and credit.

Revisado: 08-11-24
I was already a fan of the Alex Versa series and thoroughly enjoyed this first book in Jacka’s brand new series. Jacka does a good job of setting up characters and motivations, but I was left feeling vague about this world. Another listen or book 2 will hopefully remedy that. The narrator, Will Watt, was stellar! His performance kept me riveted. I’ve just purchased other books performed by him!

Sadly this one lost me…
Revisado: 08-10-24
This story felt vague and apathetic from start to finish. I’m very disappointed in Penny. Her character has definitely changed from a smart independent 35yr old trailblazer to a wheedling whining dummy. When she thought there was a good reason to attend James’ trail (a page devoted to whining “But I want to be there”) and then was actually surprised at what happened I had to take a break. For Pete’s sake.

Historia
When a prominent family's daughter flees sleepy Sussex to seek a career on the stages of a glittering West End, Harry and Kat are asked to check in on the young woman. But the two of them soon discover that there is a much bigger danger to the woman and her family than mere acting dreams being crushed. Nathaniel Parker, born in 1962, graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television career began in 1988 when he played Flying Officer 'Flash' Gordon in the LWT mini-series "Piece of Cake".

Historia
Maisie Dobbs got her start as a maid in an aristocratic London household when she was thirteen. Her employer, suffragette Lady Rowan Compton, soon became her patron, taking the remarkably bright youngster under her wing. Lady Rowan’s friend, Maurice Blanche, often retained as an investigator by the European elite, recognized Maisie’s intuitive gifts. The outbreak of war changed everything. Ten years after the Armistice, in the spring of 1929, Maisie sets out on her own as a private investigator, one who has learned that coincidences are meaningful, and truth elusive.

I started this series out of order…
Revisado: 07-08-24
I sometimes start a series with a later book and in this case it was fortuitous. I love this series - stories and narration - but I wouldn’t have even finished this first one. The story unfolds VERY slowly and yes the pacing of the narration seems a lot slower than the books to come (I pushed up the speed to 1.05 or 1.07). My advice to listeners who are remotely interested is to move forward in the series. It really is a very absorbing series. If you feel the narration/narrator seems slow or weird, adjust the audio speed a bit. (I find adjusting speed up or down makes a huge difference for a lot of audio books.)
