Historia
Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this piercing work distills 3,000 years of the history of power into 48 well-explicated laws. This bold volume outlines the laws of power in their unvarnished essence, synthesizing the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, Carl von Clausewitz, and other infamous strategists. The 48 Laws of Power will fascinate any listener interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control.

So you want to go to Hell and be the first in line
Revisado: 03-18-22
This is the perfect book for the immoral and the unscrupulous. If power is your god, this book will show you how to worship Him. This book is your Bible
This is also the perfect book for anyone who wants to understand the politicians in Washington DC
Know your enemy!
Law number two - never put too much trust in your friends. They are backstabbers just like you.
Law number seven - Get others to do the work for you but always take the credit.
If this law is true then the author did not write the book but had several Ghost writers do the research for him and then he put his name on the cover.
Law number 42 - strike the shepherd and the sheep will scatter. The author also councils against martyrdom as you gain nothing. He believes it is better to survive and fight back later.
This is the opposite of the Christian experience.
Christianity exploded after the death of Jesus Christ and the martyrs of the first century.

Historia
The American Slave Coast tells the horrific story of how the slavery business in the United States made the reproductive labor of "breeding women" essential to the expansion of the nation. The book shows how slaves' children, and their children's children, were human savings accounts that were the basis of money and credit. This was so deeply embedded in the economy of the slave states that it could be decommissioned only by emancipation, achieved through the bloodiest war in the history of the United States.

Great book but....
Revisado: 08-21-18
Awesome book that seems to be very well researched. this book expands on topics that I have read in many other books on the subject.
Tge only caveat being is that the authors political leanings paint some of thier conclusions. for example, Antonin Scalia an originalist is not a racist. because One Believes In the founding documents does not mean that one believes that slavery should be brought back.
to be sure many of our founding fathers we're hypocrites but it does not change the truth in The Words which they wrote.
the book was quite long as it seemed to straighten to other parts of History's that would have probably been left two separate books. I would love to reread this book however it's length is an issue for me
all that having been said this book is very well worth the time.

Rerum Novarum, the opening words and the title of the Encyclical issued by Leo XIII, May 15, 1891, on the "Condition of Labor". Although the Encyclical follows the lines of the traditional teaching concerning the rights and duties of property and the relations of employed and employee, it applies the old doctrines specifically to modern conditions.

Historia
The Jungle is the story of Jurgis Rudkus, a Slavic immigrant who marries frail Ona Lukoszaite and seeks security and happiness as a workman in the Chicago stockyards. Once there, he is abused by foremen, his meager savings are filched by real estate sharks, and at every turn he is plagued by the misfortunes arising from poverty, poor working conditions, and disease. Finally, in accordance with Sinclair’s own creed, Rudkus turns to socialism as a way out.

WOW, what a depressing view of America
Revisado: 06-13-18
first of all the narrator did a great job.
however I really struggled to finish this book because this author really hates America
it is a wonder that anyone would want to come to this country.
companies control you through slave wages.
bankers and Realtors will do anything to steal your house.
politicians are corrupt (okay I give him that one)
police and judges are corrupt
and the entire country is out to steal from the poor.

Historia
Friedrich Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil, first published in 1886, presents a scathing critique of traditional morality and attacks previous philosophers for their blind acceptance of Christian ideals of virtue. As an alternative to what he viewed as the illogical and irrelevant philosophy of the nineteenth century, Nietzsche argues for the importance of imagination, self-assertion, danger, and originality for genuine philosophy.

Older translations altered passages, omitted passages, mistranslated Hitler's words, and made some parts more sensational while concealing the true meaning in other parts of the book.

A Computer god for those that don't believe in God
Revisado: 02-02-18
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I hope this is not a Spoiler. A computer has "Fixed" the problem of war by controlling peoples' thoughts. Our Virtues are imputable to us because we freely follow our conscience to do what is morally right. in doing so, we can said to be a "good" person. However, when we ignore our conscience and allow our vices to control us our evils are imputable to us.
If a computer interferes with our "free will", our actions we can't be said to be good or evil because we did not freely choose them.
I simply could not get past the suggestion that a computer could accomplish what God could not. (40 million years of peace)
Has The Memory of Earth turned you off from other books in this genre?
I Love the Ender and Shadow Series. I will continue to recommend those books.
