Historia
In The Canterbury Tales Chaucer created one of the great touchstones of English literature, a masterly collection of chivalric romances, moral allegories and low farce. A story-telling competition between a group of pilgrims from all walks of life is the occasion for a series of tales that range from the Knight's account of courtly love and the ebullient Wife of Bath's Arthurian legend, to the ribald anecdotes of the Miller and the Cook.

Excellent Narration
Revisado: 07-24-24
A well-done audiobook. The cadence of the readers served to enhance the translation (though I’m no expert on Chaucer or the translation of Middle-English to Modern English) and listening experience. I do wish the titles of the tales were given as chapter titles when you select your chapter rather than chapter numbers. Thankfully only one tale, The Knight’s Tale, extends to over multiple chapters (2-3, chapter 3 begins part III of the Knight’s Tale) making this audiobook even helpful when referencing a particular tale and its prologue. Since, each tale’s title is mentioned by the narrator at the start of the chapter, apart from chapter 3, the continuation of the Knight’s Tale, helping to ease the process of locating a particular tale.

Historia
Unquestionably, Herodotus has left mankind one of the world's greatest works of literature. The Persian Wars is part history, part geography, part anthropology...and completely entertaining. It possesses a charm that is legendary. But, over and above this, Herodotus has succeeded for all time in brilliantly expressing the conflict between the ideal of the free man defending his liberty within a state based on the rule of law, and that of the despot who bases his rule on brute force and whose subjects are considered slaves.

Excellent Audiobook Companion
Revisado: 07-16-24
I wanted an audiobook that matched my George Rawlinson translation of The History of Herodotus. Charlton Griffin's audiobook was excellent for that purpose. I was able to follow along with the text and hear smooth reading and consistent pronunciation of unfamiliar names and places. Below are corresponding reference points for each given audio chapter.
Chapter 1 - Essay by Edward M. Walker and George Rawlinson (I think this reading is from the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica entry on Herodotus in the public domain)
Chapter 2 - Book 1 (Clio)
Chapter 3 - Line 72
Chapter 4 - Line 131
Chapter 5 - Book 2 (Euterpe)
Chapter 6 - Line 86
Chapter 7 - Line 135
Chapter 8 - Book 3 (Thalia)
Chapter 9 - Line 50
Chapter 10 - Line 97
Chapter 11 - Book 4 (Melpomene)
Chapter 12 - Line 69
Chapter 13 - Line 135
Chapter 14 - Book 5 (Terpsichore)
Chapter 15 - Line 75

Historia
The Wind in the Willows is a pastoral fantasy by Scottish writer Kenneth Grahame, first published in 1908. By turns slow moving and fast paced, it focuses on four anthropomorphised animals: Mole, Rat, Toad, and Badger. They live in a rural version of Edwardian England. The novel is notable for its mixture of mysticism, adventure, morality, and camaraderie. It is universally celebrated for its charming evocation of the Thames Valley countryside.

Classic Tales with a Classic Narration
Revisado: 07-09-24
Wind in the Willows is sure to be a work that many listens will want different narrators for each main character(s) however, Charlton Griffin has provided a fine single narrator performance. I do wish the titles rather than the chapter number was listed when selecting a chapter via the Audible app. I have provided them below. Thankfully, Griffin introduces each chapter with the corresponding chapter title.
1 The River Bank
2 The Open Road
3 The Wild Wood
4 Mr. Badger
5 Dulce Domum
6 Mr. Toad
7 The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
8 Toad’s Adventures
9 Wayfarers All
10 The Further Adventures Of Toad
11 "Like Summer Tempests Came His Tears”
12 The Return of Ulysses
