Historia
Ben Stone is terrified. He's terrified because he weighs 601 pounds and needs his right leg amputating. He's terrified because a crane will shortly lift him from his fourth-floor flat and lower him 44 feet to an ambulance waiting below. He's terrified because he hasn't been outside in nine years, and he doesn't know who will look after his beautiful dog. He needn't worry, though, because the world is about to end.

Probably the sweetest, most beautiful ending to a horror novel I've ever read.

Historia
Deep in the heart of Appalachia stands a crooked farmhouse miles from any road. The Morrows keep to themselves, and it's served them well so far. When girls go missing off the side of the highway, the cops don't knock on their door. Which is a good thing, seeing what's buried in the Morrows' backyard. But 19-year-old Michael Morrow isn't like the rest of his family. He doesn't take pleasure in the screams that echo through the trees.

Disappointing and filled with 1 dimensional tropes of Southern identity
Revisado: 01-30-25
I was genuinely shocked when I finished this book, and almost entirely because I couldn't believe the author of Seed could write this. It wasn't scary or suspenseful, since it was so predictable. It wasn't gory or horrific, since the violence is mostly alluded to and the only horror aspect is really the concept of the story. Felt like a bad C horror movie trying to rip off Deliverance.

Sexual assault is scarier than spider aliens
Revisado: 03-23-24
The embarrassing Christian Bale Batman voice is one thing. The fainting ingenue woman voice that sounds suspiciously like AI is another. The overzealous attempts at worldbuilding dumping so much detail and language in the first hour is yet a third thing.
The fact that she teaches him "no" and he respects it every single time up until he literally sexually assaults her is....something else entirely. The "this is absolutely rape/clearly showing lack of consent and desire/but oh no! what is my body doing??? oof hnnn the ~pleasure~ I can't believe I'm enjoying this" trope is disgusting, overused, embarrassing, and unconscionable.
Fucking gross. You should be ashamed of yourself and all of the bots you paid to get this book to 4.5 stars.
Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna go re-read some of my favorite monster romances that don't use rape scenes as an empty plot device. Ya know, cuz it's not that fucking hard to write a romance novel without one. 🤙🏽

Historia
All Mina ever wanted was to escape her father's control. Half human, half vampire, she lived eternally torn between two worlds, never fully experiencing the pleasures of either until her father chose her as the pawn in his latest political move, gifting her to the darkly powerful and dangerously seductive Malachi Zion. Malachi is not a vampire to be trifled with. He rules with an iron fist and has a reputation for the darkest of sins. But the longer Mina spends with him, the more she realizes he's not the monster she first thought.

Uncreative, poorly written, horrifically narrated, solid D- for effort
Revisado: 01-30-24
I don't even know how to write a review sufficiently cruel enough to convey how ashamed everyone involved in the publishing of this book should be.
Katee Robert has a great track record of overwhelmingly disappointing smut but this actually goes down as one of the worst books I've ever read.
No plot. No character growth. Not Like the Other Girls™️ weak waif, barely thought out and generic FMC. Uncreative, questionable, lackluster sex scenes on every page. How do you write so poorly that a 4 person vampire blood orgy is a boring and repulsive boner killer?
Bruh 💀 The half vampire needing Plan B was like 2 hours in and enough for me to nope out alone. The morning sickness trope? The blatant Breaking Dawn ripoff pregnancy plot?
AND THAT NARRATOR. Oh my GOD girl get a diction coach and stop ending every sentence with your weird ass ingenue sigh as punctuation. Absolutely ruined an already horrible read.
I love to hateread bad smut but Wattpad wouldn't even let this fly.

Satan, who is incredibly bored these days, proposes a little wager: Johannes has one year to persuade 100 people to sign over their souls, or he will be damned forever.

Lodging-house keeper Clem Talleyfer prefers a quiet life. He's happy with his hobbies, his work - and especially with his lodger Rowley Green, who becomes a friend over their long fireside evenings together. If only neat, precise, irresistible Mr. Green were interested in more than friendship. Rowley just wants to be left alone - at least until he meets Clem, with his odd, charming ways and his glorious eyes. Two quiet men, lodging in the same house, coming to an understanding...it could be perfect.

A good narrator that makes the spicy bits mild 😭
Revisado: 04-13-22
I honestly love Matthew Lloyd Davies in all of the KJ Charles books but my only complaint is that he narrates just about the least sexy scenes I've ever heard. So much gritted teeth. It sounds more like a fistfight than sex half the time.
Besides that another fun, very digestible, relatively spicy period piece that I really enjoyed. Great to throw on, hard to get lost if you're multitasking, funny, sweet, and unpretentious. :)

There's no way English people are this awkward.
Revisado: 01-29-22
The narrator really tried with different voices and stuff and it was very cute, but he sounded like he'd just had a double espresso the whole time, even during the sex scenes, which just added to his incredibly awkward the dialog already made them. A very interesting take on magic and a good story, really. Just overall, the word I'd use would be awkward.
