Historia
Disillusioned with corporate London life and with no previous experience as a long-distance cyclist, Anna decides to clamber atop a beautiful pink bicycle (named Boudica) and set out on an 11,000-mile journey on her own, through each and every state of the USA. Dodging floods, blizzards and electrical storms, she pedals side by side with mustangs of the Wild West, through towering redwood forests, past the snow-capped peaks of the Rocky Mountains and on to the volcanos of Hawaii.

I love Anna! She is hilarious, animated, inspiring and just plain awesome. I go through all her books quickly and am sad when they're over. Her adventures are envy-inducing, but it's her warm, cheery personality that has me rooting for her success with each crazy adventure.

Historia
Part memoir, part manifesto, in Eat Like a Fish Bren Smith - a former commercial fisherman turned restorative ocean farmer - shares a bold new vision for the future of food: seaweed. Through tales that span from his childhood in Newfoundland to his early years on the high seas aboard commercial fishing trawlers, from pioneering new forms of ocean farming to surfing the frontiers of the food movement, Smith introduces the world of sea-based agriculture and advocates getting ocean vegetables onto American plates (there are thousands of edible varieties in the sea!).

From someone who didn't know a lot about aquaculture and ocean farming, I feel like I can now have a conversation about it and not feel dumb! Bren is a down to earth, relatable guy and breaths reality into a subject that often seems like a pie in the sky dream- sustainable food sources. The book was enjoyable, educational, and had my mouth watering to boot! I tried buying some seaweed pasta at one of the in-store locations that carried the product according to the website, but they didn't have it :-( I'll keep trying!

I enjoyed the style this was written (back and forth from the perspective of each author), their development both personally and as a couple along the trail, hearing about other travelers struggles and triumphs, and the culture. Anyone who enjoys travel, has or will be traveling with their partner, or can relate to the struggles that come with growth, acceptance and challenging onself... will like this book. easy quick read. I want to hike the Camino now too!

new, thoughtful perspectives
Revisado: 01-27-17
Amazing collection of the many struggles we face- all so unique and so different, yet all so similar. Sugar does a great job relating to the Advisee, while giving honest and extremely thoughtful feedback as the Adviser. This is not the kind of novel you can curl up with and get lost in. I found it could be a bit intense, emotional, and heavy at times, (not something i would want to listen for hours on end) but all the same was interesting, and a good way to gain perspective on certain subjects.

Lady hikers rock!
Revisado: 01-04-17
I finished this no problem. An inspiring story of a young girl in self-discovery and finding inner strength. I connected with the author and sympathize with her struggles, although at times I have to admit that it is a bit repetitive. Still found it a good read and got lost in her thoughts and experience. Can't wait to find more stories about journeys from other PCT hikers. Girl power!!

Kristin Newman spent her 20s and 30s dealing with the stresses of her high-pressure job as a television comedy writer, and the anxieties of watching most of her friends get married and start families while she wrestled with her own fear of both. Not ready to settle down and yet loathe to become a sad-sack single girl, Kristin instead started traveling the world, often alone, for a few months each year, falling madly in love with attractive locals who provided moments of the love she wanted without the cost of the freedom she needed.
