Difficult to listen due to recording being live and the background noise. Also deliver by Dr Hawkins sometimes fails due to his age and speech patterns.

Historia
In the dark winter of 1917, as World War I was deadlocked, Britain knew that Europe could be saved only if the United States joined the war. But President Wilson remained unshakable in his neutrality. Then, with a single stroke, the tool to propel America into the war came into a quiet British office. One of countless messages intercepted by the crack team of British decoders, the Zimmermann telegram was a top-secret message from Berlin inviting Mexico to join Japan in an invasion of the United States.

Historia
It seems like any other day. You wake up, drink a cup of coffee, and head out. But today, when you open your front door, waiting for you is a small wooden box. The contents of this mysterious box tells you the exact number of years you will live. From suburban doorsteps to desert tents, every person on every continent receives the same box. In an instant, the world is thrust into a collective frenzy. Where did these boxes come from? What do they mean? Is there truth to what they promise?

The undercurrent of politics was the most interesting.
Revisado: 02-08-24
I thought the story lame. The push to set up a whole story based on an unexplained phenomenon that is never addressed made the story weak. Weaving in social issues and politics a cheap attempt to address current acceptance of those issues .

Historia
Economics can explain everything, from why people behave the way they do to how governments and businesses organize themselves. As the blockbuster best-seller Freakonomics demonstrated, economics can explain everything - from why people behave the way they do to how governments and businesses organize themselves. But are the basic assumptions and conclusions in Freakonomics true? Does the free market usually lead to unintended and negative consequences?

Historia
Does nature really make us feel better? The 3-Day Effect takes a look at the science behind why being in the wild can make us happier, healthier, and more creative. Whether it’s rafting down Utah’s Green River, hiking in Utah’s wilderness, or walking through Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, scientists are finding that the more exposure humans have to nature, the more we can benefit from reduced anxiety, enhanced creativity, and overall well-being.

Revisited
Revisado: 05-12-23
I found the why of how I survived a trauma ridden childhood by listening. I have been asked how did you end up where you are, how did you escape addiction, alcoholism, homelessness, poor/no parenting. All the things that happen to people who had childhoods like mine, I did not experience. What I had was nature. Later in adulthood I had mental health help but as a very young person I had nature…I experienced awe, I had interaction with the wild. People who know my story say I am a miracle. I know now nature was my mother.

The Black Swan, Second Edition: The Impact of the Highly Improbable: With a new section: "On Robustness and Fragility"

Historia
A black swan is a highly improbable event with three principal characteristics: It is unpredictable; it carries a massive impact; and, after the fact, we concoct an explanation that makes it appear less random, and more predictable, than it was. The astonishing success of Google was a black swan; so was 9/11. For Nassim Nicholas Taleb, black swans underlie almost everything about our world, from the rise of religions to events in our own personal lives. Elegant, startling, and universal in its applications, The Black Swan will change the way you look at the world.

Great practical work
Revisado: 12-30-21
This book changed my approach to how I think. Actually it encouraged me to think vs use short cuts of conventional wisdom which often isn’t wisdom at all. I agree with Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman, “The Black Swan changed my view of how the world works.”! The book has support through an extensive bibliography. If you are interested in making better decisions, learning how to not be blindsided, this is the book for you in my opinion.
