Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

good but slow
Revisado: 03-18-19
the story was actually fairly compelling, with strong characters and an interesting plot, but Cline front loads his world building in such a way that it's hard to make it through the first half of the book. he also goes much more into detail than a reader would need to follow to story.

Historia
The United States is obsessed with virginity from the media to schools to government agencies. In The Purity Myth Jessica Valenti argues that the country’s intense focus on chastity is damaging to young women. Through in-depth cultural and social analysis, Valenti reveals that powerful messaging on both extremes ranging from abstinence curriculum to Girls Gone Wild infomercials place a young woman’s worth entirely on her sexuality. Morals are therefore linked purely to sexual behavior, rather than values like honesty, kindness, and altruism.

excellent and well argued points
Revisado: 09-08-17
Valenti puts together and iron clad argument on how the idea of female purity is hurting women on many different levels. Her connections between virginity, porn, reproductive Rights, and sexual violence are strongly supported, and logical. my only complaints are that, if you are already in this sphere, none of the information feels new, and at times the book seems redundant.
I would give this book to someone who'd never given these things much thought, as it is a fantastic introduction to the issues at hand.

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

really good but falls short of excellent
Revisado: 04-21-17
this book is highly entertaining! the characters are great, and the concept is really interesting. Scalzi's writing is descriptive without being dense, and the dialogue can be genuinely hilarious.
but - this book is sort of a demonstration of why trilogies have gotten completely out of hand. not alot happens, almost all of it is a set up. when the book ended I was genuinely surprised as I was sure I hadn't even finished the first half. I'll definitely finish the series, but I am slightly annoyed I have to consume one story three separate books, when I am fairly sure one (slightly long) book would suffice.
will wheaton cannot do female voices, so be warned, but other than that I thought he was a great narrator and captured the tone of the book perfectly.

incredibly engaging
Revisado: 04-03-17
despite a litany of bad decisions and choices, I still found myself rooting for the author to pull through. there were moments that were so upsetting I wanted to jump into a time machine and just shake her. cat marnell is a truly gifted writer who painstakingly drags you through her addiction, her mindset at the time, while still managing to be witty, colorful, self aware, and cuts savagely to the truth.

Historia
Rosemary Harper doesn't expect much when she joins the crew of the aging Wayfarer. While the patched-up ship has seen better days, it offers her a bed, a chance to explore the far-off corners of the galaxy, and, most importantly, some distance from her past. An introspective young woman, she's never met anyone remotely like the ship's diverse crew, including Sissix, the exotic reptilian pilot; chatty engineers Kizzy and Jenks, who keep the ship running; and Ashby, their noble captain.

would be better as a TV show
Revisado: 09-20-16
Chambers's world building and character building is solid, but the plot is episodic. There were a lot of little adventures that all resolved quickly, taught us something new about a character and was neatly resolved (kind of like a TV show). She doesn't devote enough time to the main over arching journey (in my opinion), and so the end result is a softer version of Star Trek.
Still, the book was feel good and enjoyable, and refreshingly light compared to much of the sci-fi I've read. I chalked it up to an excellent beach read/listen.

It's OK
Revisado: 08-11-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I bought this on sale for $4.95. It was definitely worth $4.95. I liken it to a beach read. The plot was vaguely interesting, and the characters were build up enough to be invested in, but I probably won't listen again. Admittedly I was here for smut, and it was OK, not the best or worst I have ever seen or listened to.
What was most disappointing about Anne Mallory’s story?
There was nothing egregious about the story. The premise was sort of far-fetched, but it created a nice backdrop for the developing relationship.
What three words best describe Angèle Masters’s performance?
I don't have 3 words, but Master's was significantly better with female voices, which was to be expected. I think it's tough for women to pull off a man's voice, especially if the man is supposed to be a love interest.I didn't particularity care for the voice she used for the hero, but I was able to move past it.
Do you think Three Nights of Sin needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. The plot wrapped itself up nicely.
Any additional comments?
This is not the greatest novel ever written, so don't buy it if you're looking for plot and substance, but it's fun and fits into the romance genre well. I had a pretty good idea of what I was buying, and it lived up to my personal expectations. I don't regret buying it or listening to it.
