The character makes sense
Revisado: 11-28-21
Any listener complaining about the main character making bad decisions seem to ignore the fact she can not READ. There are significant mental advantages to being a reader. I personally figured out the riddle within a minute of thinking about it. Feyra on the other hand has not had the same education as more nor has she read the same amount of books as me. Her character is true to her limitations.
The story is bit beauty and the beast and the smut is very mild. Definitely an interesting listen as the narrator kind of reminds me of Azula from Avatar the Last Airbender.

Its kind of the same story
Revisado: 10-25-21
Lead lady is chosen at birth, veiled, abused, violent, inquisitive, and significantly more powerful than she believed
Lead Lad is self loathing, powerful, uses a nickname to introduce himself, torched past, and doubtful of reciprocation
They have their “just hawk and poppy” moment as and expression of “just Ash and Sera”. At least the names are less ridiculous.
Maybe the author is just digging into character archetypes, but it is just a bit too close. She basically told 3 books in one.
It was enjoyable, but I felt like I had heard it before.
Also silly for a primal god say “are you for real?”

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Book tik tok made a win
Revisado: 09-26-21
I saw this title as a recommendation from someone on tik tok. That got me to read the description, and that lead me to aquire this book. I DEVOURED this audiobook. Pressed play and listened at 1.4x speed until i fell asleep and then finished it as soon as it woke.
I loved the writing style. The author gave you every clue for the ending if you are looking for it but not in a way that is so obvious that you are mad at the main character. The main character has depth - believable emotions, reactions to situations, and desires that all ring true.
I cried, I laughed, i went “oouuu girl”, and though I figured out the twist, it was very satisfying.
This is the kind of novel that builds cults around authors. Excellent world building, excellent narration.

Revisado: 09-25-21
Paolini likes to use as many words as possible and it makes the story looooong. I was too bored to even stay focused on what was even happening. The beginning was strong but after she leaves the planet - get ready for conversations and medical conversations and snarky conversations and conversations with government people, and …. You get the point. I returned this title with over 19 hours left to go in the book.

In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

Full of fluff
Revisado: 02-23-20
All of the information it gives you could have been told in an hour or so. Its a lot of fluff with self indulgent storytelling. Mediocre stories at that. If this wasn’t free, I’d want my money back. It you can get it free, get it just for the fun facts about coffee’s rise to power.

Meh
Revisado: 01-06-20
The story was interesting enough, but the writing itself seemed one dimensional. I read more like one person retelling the story instead of the characters speaking for themselves. Everyone used the same words and described things the same way as the narration/ main characters thoughts.
The ending was fine. I guessed one of the twists but not the “big one”. Also what the main characters considers her own “dark side” doesn’t really count as a dark side in my opinion.
The person who read the book was fine but the way she read sentences sometimes seemed like she didn’t know how they ended when she started them. Voice inflections were a bit off with the tone of the statement a few times.
