Historia
Each spring, Ithaca condemns twelve maidens to the noose. This is the price vengeful Poseidon demands for the lives of Queen Penelope’s twelve maids, hanged and cast into the depths centuries ago. But when that fate comes for Leto, death is not what she thought it would be. Instead, she wakes on a mysterious island and meets a girl with green eyes and the power to command the sea. A girl named Melantho, who says one more death can stop a thousand.

Lovely
Revisado: 04-21-23
If you make it to the end you’ll ugly cry. This is marketed as a YA novel, but I think the themes are pretty complex and as are the intricacies of emotion. If you love anything historical or classical, this will scratch that itch. I only wish Melantho was a more likable character.

Cute
Revisado: 03-01-23
I felt the characters were somewhat undeveloped and two dimensional and the intimate scenes were strangely clinical. This made the end somewhat unsatisfying, but overall pretty cute.

For Astrid Parker, failure is unacceptable. Ever since she broke up with her fiancé a year ago, she’s been focused on her career—her friends might say she’s obsessed, but she knows she’s just driven. When Pru Everwood asks her to be the designer for the Everwood Inn’s renovation, which will be featured on a popular HGTV show, Innside America, Astrid is thrilled. Not only will the project distract her from her failed engagement and help her struggling business, but her perpetually displeased mother might finally give her a nod of approval.

Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.

Toooooo far
Revisado: 03-30-22
I am into suspending my reality but wow was this too far. I enjoyed the first couple books. However the trope of a whole book of fluffy sexiness and fight scenes ending with a huge revelation is not a great one. It only serves to keep the series going with more and more strange deities and lore that makes no sense and has no rules, all resulting in Poppy being the…center of everything? The whole world?
And Poppy is just…not smart…?
She is supposed to be a QUEEN (a QUEEN!!) of a whole land of people and she can’t manage her temper or think about war tactics in an intelligent way? She is surrounded by people who are supposed to be hundreds of years old and they are no smarter, just blundering into enemy territory with no plans? Every time the blood queen was awful, they were surprised?! Like, isn’t that the whole point of her?! It just felt incomplete and uninteresting.
The romance is two dimensional and based solely on sex. I don’t think they had a single conversation that wasn’t about war or didn’t lead to sex.
Not my cup of tea.
Performance was okay, a little melodramatic.
Sorry to be harsh but I am disappointed in how the series is progressing. I won’t read the next one.

Ummm…eh?
Revisado: 03-05-22
Loving anything with a little queer representation, I wanted to like it. The premise is maybe a bit intriguing, but the execution felt a little forced. The end sets up for a sequel, which is good cause I honestly felt like I had no idea what was going on by the end. Maybe the sequel will answer lingering questions,
although I’m not sure I care enough to read it. Pretty YA in writing style but gruesome in content. The characters were also pretty two dimensional. Not my favorite.

Historia
The Borderlands aren't like anywhere else. Don't try to smuggle a phone or any other piece of technology over the wall that marks the Border - unless you enjoy a fireworks display in your backpack. (Ballpoint pens are okay.) There are elves, harpies, and - best of all as far as Elliot is concerned - mermaids. Elliot? Who's Elliot? Elliot is 13 years old. He's smart and just a tiny bit obnoxious. Sometimes more than a tiny bit. When his class goes on a field trip and he can see a wall that no one else can see, he is given the chance to go to school in the Borderlands.

Devastatingly lovely, finished in 2 days
Revisado: 12-09-20
I have listened to audiobooks for over 15 years and this is the first time I have felt inspired to write a review.
This book’s depiction of growing up and learning about love is second to none. Including a lovely normalization of queer identities, this book has the magical feel of Harry Potter. It is wonderful to follow Elliot’s internal journey as he navigates the scars of his childhood and the desire to be loved. He is also truly hysterical, which makes the book so fun to listen to.
It had been a long time since I have had the pleasure of such a lovely story.
Please give this a listen, you’ll fall in with every character.
