Historia
This remarkable poem, dedicated to Queen Elizabeth I, was Spenser's finest achievement. The first epic poem in modern English, The Faerie Queene combines dramatic narratives of chivalrous adventure with exquisite and picturesque episodes of pageantry. At the same time, Spenser is expounding a deeply-felt allegory of the eternal struggle between Truth and Error....

Good story, organized poorly
Revisado: 08-27-23
I liked the challenge of the Victorian English poetry. A companion summary helped me understand it much better. HOWEVER, Audible has failed in just using Chapter 1-80+ for each chapter title. That’s not how it’s organized. It would have been much easier had the chapter titles reflected the ACTUAL divisions, ex. Book 2, Canto 3, etc. I found myself having to constantly go back to the beginning of a “chapter” to find where I ACTUALLY was in the story.

Historia
While singleness is often widely misunderstood by many in the church today and often viewed in negative terms, the Bible speaks about it very differently. This book sets forth a positive vision of singleness by responding to seven common misconceptions, such as the notion that singleness is too hard, requires a special spiritual gift, is a hindrance to ministry, or is a waste of sexuality. Addressed to the church as a whole and written by a single pastor....

Good to read whether single or not!
Revisado: 02-14-21
Helpful for me to read on Valentine’s Day this year. 😉 But truly, I appreciate the reminders Allberry writes about my highest calling- to know God and glorify Him regardless of my marital status.
Married people, please read! If you know even ONE single person, this will help you love them better. At least to know what well meant but hurtful things to stop saying to us single people. No matter who we are, if we are part of the family of God, we have been given gifts that benefit our brothers and sisters in Christ. To say I’m incomplete as single is to literally say Jesus was not fully human. Be careful.
Personally, i loved his point about Jesus’ teaching that obedience is worth more than any physical children I could ever have. It’s easy to bemoan my current singleness as years slipping away from me that I am able to bear children. As if by worrying about it I will suddenly find the man of my dreams, and start a family. But what is my deepest desire in all that? It reveals an idol of marriage and motherhood. Although I can’t know whether I will get married, I do believe I will. But in God’s perfect timing. And in the meantime, I get to invest in spiritual children right where I am. What a blessing. I’m thankful to Allberry to help me see that so clearly.

Historia
With the story of her conversion as a backdrop, Rosaria Butterfield invites us into her home to show us how God can use “radical, ordinary hospitality” to bring the Gospel to our lost friends and neighbors. Such hospitality sees our homes as not our own but as God’s tools for the furtherance of his kingdom as we welcome those who look, think, believe, and act differently from us into our everyday, sometimes messy lives - helping them see what true Christian faith really looks like.

Christian living the way I’ve always imagined
Revisado: 12-08-20
Wow, wow, wow. Whether you’re a committed Christian who needs practical encouragement, a new or floundering Christian that doesn’t know “what next?” or even an atheist who has yet to find a Christian who practices what they preach, there is valuable information here. On every page there is truth- unabashedly facing the truth of real life we see all around us, and lining it up to what Jesus says about it and how that plays out in real time. There are no hypothetical good ideas here. This not a “Christian self-help” book. There is NOTHING in this book Rosaria doesn’t practice regularly if not daily. If that’s not true faith, I don’t know what is.
Thank you, Rosaria, for sharing your highs and lows, no holds barred. Gritty gospel that loves fiercely and unapologetically is exactly the kind of encouragement I need.
