Unbelievable
Revisado: 11-24-24
I started with an open mind, and I assume that everyone else does too.
The five star reviews are from the authors cult like followers. I am not a follower, I saw one podcast and thought maybe this guy had something to offer. He does not. His recommendations border on ridiculous. I’m regret wasting my time.

Revisado: 11-19-24
There is so much great information in this book regarding the function of cholesterol. Very eye opening. The narration is one of the best I’ve heard, I may even listen to it again. Highly recommend.

Make it stop
Revisado: 01-24-24
I tried this author because someone recommended him on a Stephen King page. What a mistake…..as another reviewer stated, it is annoyingly repetitive. The author uses the same description for a multitude of events which makes for a boring if not irritating listen. And why are there so many kids? The narrator did what she could with this unsalvageable dreck but she couldn’t save it. Emphatically do not recommend.

Historia
A best seller in its native Canada, Drunk Mom is a gripping, brutally honest memoir of motherhood in the shadow of alcoholism. Three years after giving up drinking, Jowita Bydlowska found herself throwing back a glass of champagne like it was ginger ale. It was a special occasion: a party celebrating the birth of her first child. It also marked Bydlowska's immediate, full-blown return to crippling alcoholism.

Revisado: 08-08-23
Fantastic acting, pretty good story line almost five stars except for one thing. It isn’t finished. Is there a part 2? I’ve looked and searched and I can’t find anything that alludes to a part 2. The story just abruptly ends, no conclusions. Just stops mid thought. It is truly the mast bizarre thing and honestly makes the whole podcast a waste of time. Just as the story is about to lift off it ends…frustrating is an understatement. I cannot recommend this listen as it is which is half baked. Finish it for crying out loud.

This is professional recording with professional actors and it shows, wow what a performance! If you’re only familiar with the movie with Vivian Leigh and Marlon Brando, be forewarned…..the book is far more violent as is this theatre recording. And if you have read the book, be forewarned that it is very realistic. I wish all audible recordings were as sublime as this, highly recommend.

Historia
Elizabeth Lesser believes that if women’s voices had been equally heard and respected throughout history, humankind would have followed different hero myths and guiding stories - stories that value caretaking, champion compassion, and elevate communication over vengeance and violence. Cassandra Speaks is about the stories we tell and how those stories become the culture. It’s about the stories we still blindly cling to, and the ones that cling to us: the origin tales, the guiding myths, the religious parables, the literature and films and fairy tales passed down....

And still I struggle
Revisado: 04-27-23
I had such high hopes. Early in this book the author warns against whining. And yet she gleefully proceeds to whine and whine and whine. The narrator uses this bizarre vocal fry technique that I’m guessing is meant to camouflage the whining but it is ineffective. The early examples of the subjugation of women are enlightening and interesting however I will have to research them to verify their accuracy. This is because when the author segues into current events, she is sadly off the mark. Comparing a teacher that bravely talked down a school shooter, because she had opportunity, is stated as an answer to stop school shooters. 99 percent of the time she would have been a victim. Terrible odds. She compares peaceful ( and violent) protestors to Vietnam war veterans, it goes on and on this apples to oranges comparisons. Do we give too much credit to war generals…yes we do. But that does not warrant what she is proposing. We do not raise women up by tearing men down. She decries meeting violence with violence…by suggesting violence of a different variety. It’s mind boggling.
Other things of note: the authors use of selective accents and a constant repeating of one phrase, “tell me to what you pay attention, and I will tell you who you are”. A Spanish philosopher said this. She uses the repetition of this phrase to make a point that patently is not true. We learn about wars so as not to repeat them, not to glorify them. So adding to the curriculum is what should happen, not removing what is already there, include all people of note, add in the atrocities that have been omitted in the past, demystify the miracle of childbirth….but don’t do what is being offered here which is more revisionist history.

Historia
Deep beneath the ocean, there is a shimmering palace. Built of coral walls and windows of clearest amber, it is the kingdom of the merpeople. And one of these mermaids you might know well: she is the youngest, and is gifted with the most beautiful voice. Unhappy with her life as a mermaid, she dreams of living on dry land. One day, on her birthday, she ascends to the surface to find a magnificent three-masted ship drifting in calm waters. There, amongst the passengers, she meets the brown-eyed prince.

Health and wellness campaigns preach avoidance of unhealthy foods, sedentary lifestyles, tobacco, drugs, and alcohol, but rarely preach avoidance of unhealthy, difficult, or toxic people. Yet the health benefits of removing toxic people from your life may have far greater benefits to both physical and psychological health. We need to learn to be better gatekeepers for our minds, bodies, and souls. Narcissism, entitlement, and incivility have become the new world order, and we are all in trouble. They are not only normalized but also increasingly incentivized.

Such a disappointment
Revisado: 04-05-23
I has such hopes for this book but I was disappointed. I started with Dr. Ramani’s YouTube videos which are very informative and entertaining to watch. This is nothing like that. The narration is bad. The author makes a fine effort but it is flat. Certainly not the cadence of conversation we’re used to. Second, the author has extreme difficulty with personal bias. She states opinions as facts. This is a mistake since it opens the door to question everything she says. So as much as Dr. Ramani is considered the expert on narcissism, the contents of this book prove otherwise. Everyone has bias, she even states this in the YouTube videos. Why she doesn’t acknowledge her own is problematic. I recommend the YouTube content but not this book.
