Historia
The author of the number-one New York Times best seller Proof of Heaven teams up with the sages of times past, modern scientists, and with ordinary people who have had profound spiritual experiences to show the reality of heaven and our true identities as spiritual beings. When Proof of Heaven was published, some people contacted Dr. Eben Alexander to argue that his near death experience was impossible. But many more have written to say his story resonated with them in profound ways.

I wish I'd bought the paperback version.
Revisado: 10-16-18
I am hungry for the information that Alexander shares. But, I find his girlfriend's sections so annoying that I've quit trying to listen to the book. She tries so hard to sound "spiritual" that it comes off as phony hippie dippie acting.
I wish I felt differently. She no doubt has something of value to add, but I've yet to see a wife or girlfriend riding on her man's coattails come off as credible. For me, her parts ruined the book.

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - what percentage of the world's population live in poverty; why the world's population is increasing; how many girls finish school - we systematically get the answers wrong. In Factfulness, professor of international health and global TED phenomenon Hans Rosling, together with his two longtime collaborators, Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens.

I really, really wanted to like this book.
Revisado: 04-28-18
Best book Bill Gates ever read. Okay. Best book I ever read? I'll never know because I found it excruciating to listen to. The author spent so much time patting himself on his back for his brilliance that his message got lost in the self adulation.
And the narrator...please, dude. This isn't an audition for a melodrama. It's a book. Just read the freaking book and leave out the acting, would you?
Returning it. Just cannot believe that I wouldn't get more out of a 20 minute Ted talk than I would trying to slog through this nightmare.

Revisado: 11-29-17
I'd love to know know what this neurosurgeon's message is, but I found listening to his endless drivel impossible. It's as if the book were written for a four year old. Am asking to return it....even if it were free, for me, it was a total waste of time.

The narrator RUINED this work.
Revisado: 10-15-16
I am a huge fan of Neville Goddard. HUGE FAN. I devour everything he's ever written. I had to quit on this book, though, within a half hour. The narrator was so hippy-dippy, apparently trying to sound oh, so profound and spiritual that it was unbearable.
Just read the damned book, for Christ's sake.

Revisado: 07-03-16
In sales my whole life, I was taught manipulations to get people to yes. I always felt a bit smarmy using them.
Chris teaches techniques to bring them into actual agreement with the outcome you're looking for. I wish I'd have had this information forty years ago. Life - in business, relationships, with myself - would have been so very different. His methods are easy to understand, easy to implement -- they just make sense.

Historia
Let's be honest - nobody has more fun than atheists. Don’t believe it? Well, consider this: For nonbelievers, every day you’re alive is a day to celebrate! And no one celebrates life to the fullest like Penn Jillette - the larger, louder half of legendary magic duo Penn & Teller - whose spectacularly witty and sharply observant essays in Every Day Is an Atheist Holiday! will entertain zealots and skeptics alike.

Don't let the atheism put you off
Revisado: 06-11-16
I hesitated to buy this book, fearing it would be a screed on atheism. It's not. It's thoughtful, provocative, funny, engaging and searingly honest.
For someone who makes his living "deceiving" people, Penn is astonishingly candid about himself and his life. I first got to know him watching The Celebrity Apprentice, where he appeared to me to be the quintessential nice guy. This book goes a long way to explainging why. Jillete is the poster boy for integrity. Love him or hate him, you have to admire that he lives his life with true purpose, real joy and brutal self examination.
I'm not a hippie. I disagree with some of his views and God knows I couldn't - wouldn't - live my life as he lives his, but I celebrate that this world has room for both of us. I celebrate that someone can create such magic and joy and not be caught up in the celebrity bullshit that so many in entertainment do.
I wish I knew Penn - I find him fascinating. He's one of the rare ones who could discuss differing beliefs without resorting to name calling and dismissive rhetoric. He is a rare bird in this world - a truly authentic human being.

Tedious and tiresome
Revisado: 05-13-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I loved Joan Rivers, but this book is endless one liners intended to shock. It ran out of funny in the first hour. Forced humor that would have been far better delivered in small doses. Just such a disappointment.

In Being Mortal, best-selling author Atul Gawande tackles the hardest challenge of his profession: how medicine can not only improve life but also the process of its ending. Medicine has triumphed in modern times, transforming birth, injury, and infectious disease from harrowing to manageable. But in the inevitable condition of aging and death, the goals of medicine seem too frequently to run counter to the interest of the human spirit.

Historia
>When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.

Like a trip to Africa
Revisado: 04-23-16
What made the experience of listening to The Elephant Whisperer the most enjoyable?
What an exquisitely done book. The picture he painted of Africa and those magnificient animals was almost tangible. His deep love for them and deep grief at the loss of those who died was presented without being overly sentimental...just real. Enjoyed this book SO much!
What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?
It was perfection. Just the right intonation. Felt like he was telling a story instead of reading a book.
