A Story For Sisters
Revisado: 08-03-21
My first story by this author and I really enjoyed it. Each of the sisters are unique and yet play their roles perfectly. Plenty of secrets kept from each other as well as finally understanding all that went on when they were young, before tragedy split them apart. The story has a great twist that ties things together in the end.

Complicated Ghost Story
Revisado: 06-24-20
I appreciate the author’s ability to tell such an involved tale. She is an excellent writer and weaves a complicated story of secrets and lies and their results.
While I didn’t always find the character Heidi to be a sympathetic character, her parallel story made Thea’s story more intriguing. The bloodlines of the various characters and inter-relationships confused me and I’m still not sure I understand it all. But the story held my interest and the narrator was perfect for the story.

Historia
Charlie Finn had to grow up fast, living alone by age 16. Highly intelligent, he earned a life-changing scholarship to Harvard, where he learned how to survive and thrive on the outskirts of privileged society. That skill served him well in the cutthroat business world, as it does in more lucrative but dangerous ventures he now operates off the coast of Miami. Charlie tries to separate relationships from work.

Convicting
Revisado: 06-09-17
Charles Martin is one of my all-time favorite authors. I always look forward to reading his work. This book took a while to get into. It was tough to really like the main character. And the way the story jumps back and forth in time and place was confusing. I kept wondering what was the point of the story.
But somewhere around halfway, the focus changes and the storyline gains focus and it all starts to make sense.
I loved the characters, especially Paulina, Paulo, Zal, and the two little girls, Maria and Isabella. The narrator did a wonderful job giving a distinctive voice to each one. I often heard Paulina "talking" in my head even when I wasn't listening to the audiobook.
I also enjoyed the explanation at the end, hearing how the story was inspired by real events.
All in all, another great book by an extremely talented author.

Historia
“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

I expected better
Revisado: 05-06-17
Would you try another book from Stephen King and/or Stephen King?
No, I normally don't read his genre, but this book on writing was recommended by a couple of writers I respect.
Did On Writing inspire you to do anything?
I quit listening halfway through because of the profanity and vulgar language. I realize that's probably how he speaks, but I've always thought use of foul language, except in dialogue, was a lazy way to write. I expected better from such a popular, successful author.
Any additional comments?
I wish I'd have borrowed the book from the library instead.

Very Enjoyable Story
Revisado: 04-24-17
The Sinner's Garden is an interesting story of God revealing himself to people in need. The characters are real, as are their struggles to understand the complexities of life. I never saw the ending coming, but it was just right.
My only criticism of the audiobook is the lack of vocal variety on the part of the narrator. He made a 14 year old boy sound very similar to the aging pastor.
Otherwise I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys human drama and the search for God.

Another Wingate Winner
Revisado: 04-03-17
There's a reason Lisa Wingate is one of my favorite authors. Well, more than one reason. Her characters are so well drawn, making the reader alternately dislike and love them, sympathizing with them in their trials. I enjoy her small town/country settings, especially this one centered around a lake. And the stories are so engaging. The voices for narrating this story fit so well. I hate to come to the end.
