Shame On Me

I am old enough to remember how Vietnam Vets were treated. I remember watching P.O.W.s disembark from the plane. My sister had a P.O.W. bracelet. Never heard the women's story. Glad I finally have. As I read through the pages, I kept wanting the outcome to be as phenomenal as the service the vets endured. But that did not happen. They returned to unjust scorn and in dire need of help . I guess the women even suffered the additional disrespect of not being counted as a vet at all.

While the ending to this story is very satisfying, it does not attempt repair the failures of our history on this subject. I wanted so much more for our hero, but that is not what happened. The author resists glossing over the unpleasant to give the reader a sense ease. It wasn't easy; not during their service and certainly not after. We should do better for our vets.

This is well written and excellent narration. Lots of people will likely really enjoy this story. It's just not for me. Not fond of making space in my brain for "creepy".

Anyway, I have an extensive library and need to rate my books so I can remember which ones I want to revisit. I really wish Audible would allow us to make our reviews private.

I think I'm done with this author.

basically the same story as most all his books. also Kevin Pierce as his only narrator just makes every series sound like the same old characters as the last series. the 8 hrs and less books are frustrating. many useless words seemingly to just get over that 7.5 hrs area. he could have done this series in 3 books. I'm really done with Abrahams.

Just Ok

Way too much sexy time distracts from story development. Narration was just ok. Not a fan of weak female leads who make dumb decisions in an attempt to look tough - Yeah, I have a stalker and the stalker has been in my house, but I have had an hour and a half of self defense training so I'm good. No need for protection or relocation or even locking doors... Why does the woman have to be an idiot to move the plot along? Ugg, I cannot relate.

Great old fashioned western

I thoroughly enjoyed this book; it encompassed all the elements you desire in a Western, complete with a few unexpected twists. Having listened to numerous works by Louis L'Amour and Elmer Kelton, I found this one equally satisfying. I'm purchasing a CD as a present for my father because it's neither excessively graphic nor offensive. The narration was also commendable. Slowing it down to 90 percent made it just right.

Sensational - but not in a good way.

Giant cliff hanger but I don't care. Not planning to continue with the series. The loose story was so disrupted by the sensational alley catting that it felt icky. The characters were so under developed that we never get to know or care about them. And, I never enjoy reading a dingbat female lead.

Seriously, if I had a way to do private reviews on this app I would. I have about 3000 books in my library so I need a way to remind myself if I want to listen to this again in a few years. This is a no, kinda cheesy. Narration was great though.

Well Thought Out Crime Drama

This was a really entertaining story and awesome performance. Narrator has a range of voices that make each character easily identifiable.

The story was a great crime drama. The main character, who witnesses a murder, suffers from TBI that has disrupted her short term memory. She carries a notebook around to record her day and reviews it every morning. The author expertly weaves this intrigue into crime solving suspense and drama that is truly captivating.

One of my favorite characters was the police detective. She got the crime solved without abusing or manipulating the witness and never uttered any foul language! Refreshingly unique.

Yes, I gave this 5 stars, which means that I will enjoy listening to this again in a few years.

Romance, Suspense and Engaging Story

What does it take to move me to rate a book with 5 stars? First, for an audible book it has to have great narration. Check. Second, the story has to have relatable characters I can invest in. Check. Love strong female leads like in this book. She is someone I would look forward to seeing in daily life. Her issues in the story are happenstance rather than self induced idiocracy, and she rises to meet them head on with intelligence and with help from her love interest. We get to ride along as their relationship deepens through mutual respect. We are cheering for them as they work out complicated roadblocks like grown ass adults. It's lovely and refreshing. The story includes well placed intimate encounters that are steamy and satisfying. Third, there has to be an intriguing context that keeps me on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next. Check. In the end, everything is wrapped up nicely and there is a tantalizing lead into the next book in the series. This book was great; it was time and money well spent. I absolutely have to listen to the next book in the series.
