Historia
The old saying, “It takes a village to raise a child” rings true in this autobiographical novel. Houshang Moradi Kermani grew up in the village of Sirch to become Iran’s eminent author of fiction for children and young adults. These are the many true events of his life that became the inspiration for his books, several of which have been made into television serials and feature films. With a mother who died in his infancy and a father who suffers from a mental illness, young Hooshoo is raised by his grandmother, Nanehbaba, and his grandfather, Aghbaba.

Slice of Life
Revisado: 04-23-23
This book is a lovely slice of life look at a young man who follows his life from a small boy all the way through his young adulthood. He suffers lots of sadness, but has great joy and great success as well. It is funny poignant, and a true story also, I was delighted with the narrator who has a easy to listen to voice.

Narration was great but the story has some weak and unrealistic character interactions. Maybe written for a much younger reader.

Historia
Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but longstanding enmities dividing the Rhune make it all but impossible to unite against the common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods? The answer lies across the sea in a faraway land populated by a reclusive and dour race who feel nothing but disdain for both Fhrey and mankind.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Historia
After the economic meltdown of 2008, Warren Buffett famously warned, "beware of geeks bearing formulas." But as James Weatherall demonstrates, not all geeks are created equal. While many of the mathematicians and software engineers on Wall Street failed when their abstractions turned ugly in practice, a special breed of physicists has a much deeper history of revolutionizing finance.

The title is a bit misleading.
Revisado: 03-10-15
This book is a summary of the entrance of more advanced mathematical analysis to the financial markets. It discusses how this change came about and specific examples of success and failure along the way. I found it distracting and annoying however that the author kept referring to how physics was now a part of wall street. The reality is that the advanced mathematical techniques used by physicists and mathematicians in their daily work made it's way, over time, to the financial world but this does not mean that physics has a new branch of study in finance.

Starbucks the good corporate citizen.
Revisado: 03-10-15
I respect Howard Schultz for what he has created at Starbucks. I believe Starbucks proves that a business can be both successful and a good corporate citizen or at least makes an attempt to be so. I found the presentation of the growth and development of Starbucks very interesting but the book was repetitive. I felt like I was listening to a very long Starbucks commercial and found myself just waiting for the book to finish. The business community can learn a lot from Howards work at Starbucks: looking at profits alone can actually prevent success and creating a business that is based on quality and an ethic of good corporate citizenship can flourish and be profitable.

A fast and to the point summary of history.
Revisado: 03-10-15
If you have ever complained about a book dragging on or taking ten pages to cover what could have been presented in just one then this book is not it. It is a quick review of Durant's conclusions about the success and failure of civilizations. I thought the book was well done and it included recorded discussions with Durant between each chapter which were very interesting. We have all heard it; a civilization that does not know the history of the success and failures of other civilizations is doomed to relive the mistakes of the past. This is your chance to hear a summary of all the major civilizations and their eventual demise and the reason they failed according to Durant. From the information presented in this book you can extend your reading to a more detailed look at a civilization that interests you.

Historia
Something scary is happening to boys today. From kindergarten to college, they are less resilient and less ambitious than they were a mere 20 years ago. Fully one-third of men ages 22 to 34 are still living at home with their parents, about a 100 percent increase in the past 20 years. Boys nationwide are increasingly dropping out of school; fewer are going to college. Family physician and research psychologist Dr. Leonard Sax presents practical solutions.

A common problem for parents of boys today.
Revisado: 02-28-15
Some of the material, a very small portion, is out of date but the problem that he discusses is still prevalent today. The problem of unmotivated boys is not universal but it is significant. The author brings his experience from work to shed some light on what might be behind the lack of motivation that some boys seem to have. His exploration covers many factors including environment, current culture, technology and roles. It is somewhat a battle from within for boys in light of their genetics, instincts and free will and their interaction in a modern culture. You may not agree with everything but it will make you think.

At only five years old, Saroo Brierley got lost on a train in India. Unable to read or write or recall the name of his hometown or even his own last name, he survived alone for weeks on the rough streets of Calcutta before ultimately being transferred to an agency and adopted by a couple in Australia. Despite his gratitude, Brierley always wondered about his origins. One day, after years of searching, he miraculously found what he was looking for and set off to find his family.

A young boy's unique life experience.
Revisado: 02-28-15
This is a true story about a boy who becomes lost and is separated from his family from a very young age. He ultimately is adopted and grows up far away. As an adult he tries to find his way home. Don't expect adventure or excitement around every corner but there certainly was enough to keep me interested. It is not a story to entertain but to experience. The author does a good job presenting his story from start to finish with great detail given that some of the events occurred when he was just five. The story is also an introduction to the life of the very poor in India which is difficult as you might expect. There are some heroes and some villains along the way but it is a very positive story and well worth the read.
Vikas Adam does a great job narrating.
