Overall lovely story. Drags a tad sometimes but Rosalyn Landor enhances everything she reads! She makes everything plausible!

Historia
If, like Kane, you’re a Denied Access Area spy for the CIA, then boundaries have no meaning. Your function is to go in, do whatever is required, and get out again—by whatever means necessary. You know when to run, when to hide—and when to shoot. But some places don’t play by the rules. Some places are too dangerous, even for a man of Kane’s experience. The badlands where the borders of Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan meet are such a place—a place where violence is the only way to survive.

Disappointed
Revisado: 08-11-24
Our book club waited years beyond the original release date for the next story in The Pilgrim series. Sadly, it was not worthy of the wait. The narrator’s voice was too old for what must have been the age at the time of telling but it’s difficult to know since it’s difficult to grasp when the actual events occurred. I struggled through the fourth of the book but was determined to finish. Not sure why, except sometimes the epilogues are good and it was one of the better parts of the book.

One of the best books I have ever read. An amazing observation and perception of humans and the most beautiful tribute to a mother and her amazing family.

Historia
As a child, Devlin Ware thought his family stood for all that was right and good in the world. They were kind, gracious, and shared the beauty of Ravenwood, their grand country estate, by hosting lavish parties for the entire countryside. But at 22, he discovered his whole world was an elaborate illusion, and when Devlin publicly called his family to account for it, he was exiled as a traitor. So be it. He enlisted in the fight against Napoleon and didn't look back for six years. But now his father is dead, the Ware family is broken, and as the heir he is being called home.

Very slow starter
Revisado: 07-03-23
I have listened to most of Mary Balogh’s books and usually enjoy them very much. Ms Landor is one of my favorite narrators.
I thought this book would never push past trying to ensure we all understood they were a happy family. I almost gave up. The last half was better but I wouldn’t buy again.

Thoroughly entertaining!

The perfect romance. I had to chuckle at some of the most ridiculous statements but, after all, it serves exactly as a good romance novel should. I really enjoyed all the characters and especially the protagonists and their banter.

Narrator not my cup of tea
Revisado: 01-26-23
Rosalyn Landor is one of the overall best narrators and a tough act to follow. She performed the first two titles in this series and her characters are so much more charming and believable even when the story line is not. I nearly gave up over the voice of Sebastian. I’m still debating whether to purchase the next book in the series.

Historia
In a moment of recklessness, Gervase Tregarth, sixth Earl of Crowhurst, swears he’ll marry the next eligible lady to cross his path. Cloistered at his ancestral castle in Cornwall, with nary a suitable woman for miles, he never expects he’ll have to fulfill his pledge, at least not until the London season begins. But then he meets his neighbor, the very appealing Madeline Gascoigne.
Years of secret service to the Crown have taught Gervase the value of always having a loophole - there will be no wedding if he and Madeline are not compatible in every way.

Poor narration
Revisado: 08-06-22
The narration made it difficult to enjoy the book. More like a parody of a romance novel. I had enjoyed the earlier Bastion novels but am disappointed to see that the same narrator completes the series. Not yet decided whether I’ll continue. The male and female voices are cringe worthy.
