A lot of intrigue with twists and turns!
Revisado: 04-29-25
I really enjoyed this book. I found the premise to be interesting and intriguing. I always know when a book has caught my interest if I find myself thinking about it randomly trying to figure things out it in it. This book is fast paced, has lots of twists and turns while the characters are trying to figure out a political cabal that reaches into the highest places from politicians to justices. Who is Checkmate? What is this conspiracy and how did it manage to acquire such high level people and become so powerful? I'm looking forward to the next book to find out all the secrets that are yet to be revealed. I love the narrator, Jennifer Fournier. I have listened to other things that she has narrated and she brings the characters to life.

Interesting twist on Norse Mythology
Revisado: 10-04-17
I gave this story four stars because it was an extremely slow start. It took me a couple of hours to get into it, and even then it was up and down for me. It wasn't until I was halfway through the book that I became much more interested in what was going to happen, and who these characters actually were. I was also a little disappointed in the ending and how you literally have no clue what occurred when she finally confronted the people responsible for her brother's death, which is what the book spent all of that time building up to. By the time the second book comes out, I just may have lost interest in even finding out.
The narrator, Jennifer Fournier, was top notch. She reads extremely well, and I find her very pleasant and easy to listen to. If she narrates the next one, the odds are higher that I will give it a listen, because I love her narration style.

I love the latest installment for Polly! This book was the most suspenseful yet, and the cast of characters was interesting, as always. Jennifer Fournier does another amazing job on narration and bringing Polly to life. This is such a cute, fun series, and the new one did not disappoint!

Quirky and Fun!
Revisado: 09-12-17
These story are cute and funny. The main character, Polly, is quirky and unusual and it was enjoyable to just sit back and listen to her perspective on everything. They are true cozy mysteries, so if you are looking for a serious mystery that keeps you guessing until the end, these aren't the stories for you. A few of them caught me by surprise, but most of them I had figured out before the story wrapped up. Regardless, they were a fun listen.
The Narrator, Jennifer Fournier, reads the story perfectly. She has a way of expressing Polly's unusual personality and thoughts that comes across just right for the character. I quite enjoyed her and will look for other books by the narrator. She was easy to listen to and the changes in her voice when expressing Polly's joy, sadness or happiness were just perfect and suited Polly's personality just right.
This is a great series if you are looking for just light, fun mysteries.

Historia
From Charlaine Harris, the best-selling author who created Sookie Stackhouse and her world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, comes a darker locale - populated by more strangers than friends. But then, that's how the locals prefer it. Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It' s a pretty standard dried-up western town.

I love the town of Midnight!
Revisado: 08-11-17
What made the experience of listening to Midnight Crossroad the most enjoyable?
The story and the characters are quite fascinating in the way that they are written. I love this little town, and how this unusual group of characters have made their own little "family."
What did you like best about this story?
Getting to visit some favorite characters from some of her other series. It always makes me happy seeing characters jump from one series to another, and gives the books a feel of continuity that I like.
What does Susan Bennett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The performance was very well done. I felt like I was right there in the town and could distinctly visualize each character as she brought them to life.
Any additional comments?
I have always felt that Charlaine Harris does really good mysteries, and this one was excellent. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Redemption isn't a word Jim Heron knows much about - his specialty is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charged with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins. Vin diPietro long ago sold his soul to his business, and he's good with that - until fate intervenes in the form of a tough-talking Harley-riding, self-professed savior.

Great start to a new series!
Revisado: 04-05-17
What did you like best about this story?
I'll start off by saying that I love J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood, so it seemed I should try this series. I love that it's set in the same town as the Brotherhood.Although this book had a slow start, by midway through I was so hooked I couldn't stop listening. I would find myself sitting in my garage after I got home at night from my commute not wanting to stop listening. One of the interesting things about the book is the way that it's really telling two stories at once. The story of the Fallen Angels trying to save a soul in the war against a Demon, but also there is a romance between two of the characters going on at the same time.I'm really looking forward to getting into the next book in the series.
Have you listened to any of Eric G. Dove’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I enjoy Eric's narration. I have listened to him on several other novels, and I find his voice pleasant and easy to listen to.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not at first. I found the opening chapter a little confusing and how fast the characters were getting introduced and how they related to what we were told in the beginning. But once I got up to speed and halfway in, I wanted to just sit and listen to find out what would happen next.
Any additional comments?
I'm a huge fan of J.R. Ward, so I'm so glad this book didn't disappoint.

Historia
It was one of Eve Dallas’s earliest takedowns, back in her uniform days. A monster named Isaac McQueen had been abducting young victims and leaving them scarred in both mind and body. Thanks to Eve, he wound up where he belonged, removed from civilized society in Rikers. But he’s not behind bars anymore. After his escape, McQueen has two things in mind. One is to take up where he left off, preying on the young and innocent - when necessary, with the help of a female partner all too willing to be manipulated and to aid and abet his crimes.

One of the Best of the series!
Revisado: 10-25-11
I have been a J.D. Robb fan for too many years to count, but this book is one of the best in the series. The way that Eve is forced to deal with so many things from her past all in one case is riveting. I couldn't put it down from page one. Susan Ericksen is one of my favorite narrators and she did a great job on this one.

Really Disappointing Narration
Revisado: 09-14-10
I love the In Death series, and this is one of my favorite books. I recently decided I was going to listen to the complete series from start to finish in audiobook format. I loved the first books in the series. And then I bought this one. The narration is so monotone and flat that it makes me crazy trying to figure out who is speaking. I'm sad and thinking about not buying anymore of the series because I'm not even going to bother to finish this one.
