Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Immersive experience
Revisado: 08-07-24
1984 is a well known text, but especially poignant today because of the emergence of the new Puritanism, or the woke mob. Thought police, snitching, the loss of free speech. Orwell was prescient.

Good Old Fashioned Writing
Revisado: 12-19-22
Beautiful writing, with all the pathos and gravitas of the old world, a world of dominion and survival. It tugs at the heart strings with man’s best friend. Yes - man’s best friend, to use the older language. Jack London speaks through the mind and heart of a domesticated dog that becomes as wild as a wolf, and even more so. A wonderful classic.

Historia
Brendan has always lived a careful, constrained life. A salesman who never liked the work, he's a man who has stayed in his marriage and his faith because it was what was expected of him. But now, having lost his job after corporate downsizing and on the cusp of 60, he finds himself scrambling to somehow stay afloat in the only Los Angeles work on offer to a man his age - driving for Uber.

Formulaic
Revisado: 09-08-22
Kennedy should try other moral causes, like the sanctity of life or the value of faith. Constant hammering of Christianity (he hasn’t changed since “In God’s country”) and expletives between the first and last name of God’s Son are not only offensive but predictable. More imagination, please.

Five hundred years after Luther's now famous 95 Theses appeared, Eric Metaxas, acclaimed biographer of the best-selling Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy and Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery, paints a startling portrait of the wild figure whose adamantine faith cracked the edifice of Western Christendom and dragged medieval Europe into the future.

Excellent biography
Revisado: 04-06-22
Eric has a profound and simple (in a good way) style, easily accessible and enjoyable. His knowledge of the subject matter is extensive, and I enjoyed his Bonhoeffer too.
