Historia
For decades Malibu Creek State Park was the spectacular natural setting where Hollywood fantasies were made. But when a female camper is gunned down, it becomes a real-life killing ground. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives Eve Ronin and Duncan Pavone are assigned the case...which Duncan fears is the latest in a series of sniper attacks that began long before Eve came to Lost Hills.

Mind-numbingly boring
Revisado: 12-19-22
I didn't even finish this book. I tried three times to keep going, but the first few hours were a total snoozefest. My attention kept wandering. The first few books in this series were entertaining.

Historia
When a young man is found gruesomely murdered in a London houseboat, it triggers questions about three women who knew him. Laura is the troubled one-night-stand last seen in the victim’s home. Carla is his grief-stricken aunt, already mourning the recent death of yet another family member. And Miriam is the nosy neighbor clearly keeping secrets from the police. Three women with separate connections to the victim. Three women who are – for different reasons – simmering with resentment. Who are, whether they know it or not, burning to right the wrongs done to them.

I finished A Slow Fire Burning about a week ago and I'm already forgetting all about it. Lackluster is a good word for this book.

Just Okay
Revisado: 08-07-20
Some of these short lessons are quite interesting, but there is little help with the pronunciation of the more difficult phrases. I'm in the car when I'm listening and sometimes can't discern what letters I'm hearing. Slow down the examples a bit too. What's the rush? No naughty words. Hey, I want to learn the naughty words too!

Just what I needed
Revisado: 06-11-19
Just what I needed for pre-moving week. Something easy on the ears/uncomplicated and fun to listen to while I was packing and running all over town. I could stop and start again without having to remember complicated names and scenarios. Wish I could find another like this one.

Historia
Driving home from a dinner party in the village of Sumpton Harcourt, Rory and Molly Harris, the new vicar and his wife, strain to see the road ahead - and then suddenly brake, screeching to a halt. Right in front of them, aglow in the headlights, a body hangs from a gnarled tree at the edge of town. An elderly spinster has been murdered - and the villagers are bewildered as to who would commit such a crime. Agatha Raisin rises to the occasion (a little glad for the excitement, to tell the truth, after a long run of lost cats and divorces on the books).

All over the place
Revisado: 03-19-19
What did I really expect with Book #28? I've followed Agatha for more than 15 years. I find her character to be amusing and the audio books are really easy listening. This book was not one of the better installments. The author even changed the first name of a long-standing character, which really irritated me. I found the story to be all over the place. As for narration, I like Alison Larkin. When I first began the series, it was narrated by Donada Peters. Somewhere along the line, narration was taken over by Penelope Keith. I like Larkin better than Keith, who made Agatha sound too uppity. Larkin sounds a bit like Peters...who I think of as the "real Agatha."

Historia
Echo Ridge is small-town America. Ellery's never been there, but she's heard all about it. Her aunt went missing there at age 17. And only five years ago, a homecoming queen put the town on the map when she was killed. Now, Ellery has to move there to live with a grandmother she barely knows. The town is picture-perfect, but it's hiding secrets. And before school even begins for Ellery, someone has declared open season on homecoming, promising to make it as dangerous as it was five years ago. Then, almost as if to prove it, another girl goes missing.

Not quite as good as (and quite a bit more YA than) the first book by this author. Overall, enjoyable with the last 3 hours being suspenseful and worthy of binge-listening.

Historia
Our narrator should be happy, shouldn't she? She's young, thin, pretty, a recent Columbia graduate; she works an easy job at a hip art gallery and lives in an apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan paid for, like the rest of her needs, by her inheritance. But there is a dark and vacuous hole in her heart, and it isn't just the loss of her parents, or the way her Wall Street boyfriend treats her, or her sadomasochistic relationship with her best friend, Reva. It's the year 2000 in a city aglitter with wealth and possibility; what could be so terribly wrong?

Count me IN for anything Ottessa Moshfegh!
Revisado: 01-23-19
What the????? There was absolutely no plot beyond this crazy woman attempting to drug herself into oblivion for a year, convinced that this would somehow be the equivalent of reformatting her hard drive. We follow her in and out of sleep, her psychiatrist's office, the bodega, pharmacies, blackouts, day tripping, night tripping, etc. We look to see what's lurking under the bed. No plot? Why did I keep listening? Actually, I couldn't stop! The narrative was hypnotic, sometimes disgusting, and darkly (very darkly) humorous. The character drove the bus, even with her eyes closed. Moshfegh can write a marvelously repugnant character like few others. This book was ALMOST as good as EILEEN. Count me IN for anything by Ottessa Moshfegh.

Later that night in her room, another terrifying experience further reinforces the sense that something is very wrong. From the moment Eliza rises the following morning, her every step seems dogged by a malign presence that lives within Gaudlin's walls.
