Satter has keen insight and has gathered the evidence: ridding Russia of communism simply freed its thuggish controlling classes to pillage and kill under the faux banner of democracy and capitalism. It's neither but criminality will wear whatever cloak is needed to cover its true nature.

Satter holds out hope Russians, who peacefully overthrew communism, can do the same to their oligarchies and new breed of billionaires now calling the shots. Judging from what Satter has reported so well, I'm not as optimistic.

Great fun. How much of it is embellished? Who KNOWS? Who cares? Still get fun.

This provides context and the inter-relatedness of Wilson and Lenin how their efforts a world apart affected each others' to their detriment and benefit.

Then it goes off the rails at the end by presuming to know what the evidence suggests, and getting it mostly wrong
. The author is a better historian than prognosticator.

What did you love best about How Civilizations Die (and Why Islam Is Dying Too)?

Sometimes it is necessary to explain the obvious. Anti-human campaigns, such as zero population growth, have consequences that should be obvious, but unfortunately aren't understood until it's too late.

The good news is that Christians who understand the biblical command to be fruitful and multiply are mankind's hope.

The narcissistic, short-sighted, me-centered reap what they sow: few children, and an end to their way of life, necessarily.

What does Tom Weiner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He read it with emphasis seemingly born of empathy. Very effective.

If you could give How Civilizations Die (and Why Islam Is Dying Too) a new subtitle, what would it be?

Worldviews Matter

Any additional comments?

Buy it. Read (listen to) it. Believe it. It's obvious.

Would you try another book from John Pruskin and/or John Pruskin?

I might buy another of his books, but not if he narrates it.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was so abrupt I was certain there had to be another part to come. But there wasn't.

What didn’t you like about John Pruskin’s performance?

The narration was stilted and robotic, almost unbearable to listen to.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The subject matter was treated superficially, but adequately for an overview of the years discussed.

Any additional comments?

What was the deal with that ending? What a puzzle.
