Historia
Marie Sklodowska, 25, is studying science at the Sorbonne—one of the only universities in the world that has begun to admit women. A thousand miles from her native Poland, with no money and the odds stacked against any woman daring to pursue a career in such a rigorous field, Marie throws herself into her studies. She’s certain that to succeed in a man’s world, she will have to go it alone.

Great for younger audiences
Revisado: 03-30-19
Sixteen-year-old me would have loved this book. It feels too simplified for adult audiences. That being said, reading this would’ve emboldened me to continue into a career in science after having worked in a lab during the summer at the age of 16 while my friends did other typically teenage things.

Strong woman
Revisado: 02-05-18
Chang Yu-I is an amazingly strong woman who endured such hardship and still pursued the best for her children and for herself. This is a heartbreaking story of a lack of connection with those close to her (beyond her relationship with one of her brothers) and of repeated loss; a story of the tension between traditional Chinese values and progressive Western pursuits.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Laughter and Tears
Revisado: 02-04-18
I have new respect for Trevor Noah. I laughed and cried through to the end.
Noah gives an honest account of what it is like to live in a society built on discrimination and its effects on the everyday lives of the minority.
