Historia
Jack Reacher wakes up alone, in the dark, handcuffed to a makeshift bed. His right arm has suffered some major damage. His few possessions are gone. He has no memory of getting there. The last thing Reacher can recall is the car he hitched a ride in getting run off the road. The driver was killed. His captors assume Reacher was the driver’s accomplice and patch up his wounds as they plan to make him talk. A plan that will backfire spectacularly . . .

Reacher is more proactively physical
Revisado: 11-04-24
This one is a drop off from previous Reacher books. I found myself wandering off mentally. The characters frequently ran together, it was difficult to keep them separated.
Scott Brick did his usually stellar performance but even he couldn’t bring back earlier Reacher magic.

Historia
1945. In the waning months of World War II, Japan hid vast quantities of gold and other stolen valuables in boobytrapped underground caches all across the Philippines. By 1947 some of that loot was recovered, not by treasure hunters, but by the United States government, which told no one about the find. Instead, those assets were stamped classified, shipped to Europe, and secretly assimilated into something called the Black Eagle Trust.

Bitcoin rises
Revisado: 07-08-24
Bitcoin gets only moderate attention these days, so it’s nice to get so much detail about how it operates. Novices like me are always curious.
Steve Berry almost always builds his plots around current events but also adds a historical background into them; The Atlas Maneuver is no exception.
And what more can be said about Scott Brick? It’s no wonder more and more authors are engaging his talents.

Historia
Hannah Brooks looks more like a kindergarten teacher than somebody who could kill you with a wine bottle opener. Or a ballpoint pen. Or a dinner napkin. But the truth is, she’s an Executive Protection Agent (aka "bodyguard"), and she just got hired to protect superstar actor Jack Stapleton from his middle-aged, corgi-breeding stalker.

The story is a bit hokey but with all that’s going on in the world, something this uplifting story is just what I needed.

Narration mars a decent story
Revisado: 08-01-21
Narrators that mispronounce well known places should be replaced. At least four places were badly mispronounced: Leicester Square was pronounced “Leichester ” not “lester;” Bruges, Belgium was pronounced “burgess;” Calais, France was pronounced “Cali;” and Barrow, Alaska was pronounced “borrow.” On top of all that he seemed very bored with the story more often that not, as if he was about to fall asleep.

In the tradition of Schindler's List comes a thrilling novel based on the heroic true story of Fritz Kolbe, a widowed civil servant in Adolf Hitler's foreign ministry. Great Historical Fiction
Revisado: 06-20-18
I have become a history buff as I age. This book purported to be the story of one of the most important spies of the 20th century. After listening to it I am even more impressed with what it took to defeat the axis powers. It was much more than the fire power of the US, UK, Canada and other allies. People like Fritz Kolbe were instrumental in defeating Hitler and the Nazis. The Honest Spy is an extremely well written account of a real life German who endured the entire war while remaining in an important position within the German government. It also incorporates a love story that may or may not have been real but post reading research doesn't discount it. I truly enjoyed this book and, having listened to hundreds of books on Audible, would rate it in the top five.
