I love Bryn Greenwood! After listening to All the Ugly and Wonderful Things, I couldn’t wait to listen to another of her novels. Love, loyalty, friendship, and honor among her unique but believable characters makes for a beautiful and uplifting story!

Not for me
Revisado: 08-16-22
Not sure if it was the whiny voice of the narrator or the juvenile content of the characters remarks but this is one of the few books that I was not able to continue listening to.

Painful
Revisado: 05-19-22
I actually made it through 4 hours of the main character’s hysterical ravings mainly because I was weeding the garden. I believe this is the first time I’ve ever given up on a book but this was just too painful to listen to!

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Wonderful Story
Revisado: 10-02-21
A totally engaging tale that’s educational as well! I didn’t know about and was fascinated by the Park Horse Librarians. What an incredible group of courageous women! I also didn’t know about the blue people of Kentucky. The author’s notes at the end of the novel are excellent but I was interested enough to do my own research long before the end of the book.

Historia
As a doctor, I walk a dangerously delicate balance of being compassionate but not overly invested. The same is true in my personal life - love is a luxury I can’t afford. It isn’t until Dr. Westin Grant breaks down all my walls and offers me a future, I find myself wondering if I’m brave enough to risk my heart. When who I was and who I’ve tried to become collide during my clinical trial, the fate of one patient changes everything.

Loved this book!
Revisado: 07-19-21
This is the life story of a shy and unassuming man. It’s set in the early to mid 1900s and reflects the values and societal norms of that time. He was of my parent’s generation and It provided much insight into their thoughts and attitudes. For me it was a reflection on what we have lost and gained as a society. It’s also a wonderfully compelling story!
The prose is absolutely beautiful and the performance was perfect! I believe it’s definitely worth a second listen.

Historia
Like many well-to-do Upper East Siders over the age of 65, esteemed art appraiser Percival Skinner had planned to spend his retirement living off his savings. But a market correction has left him living below his prior means. One day he’s visited by a dapper fixer in search of a famous work by a Renaissance master. Skinner knows the work well: The original was owned by his ancestor, and was passed down through his family over the generations. If, as an intermediary, he can coordinate a sale, a small fortune awaits. Problem is, he might not be the only one on the make.

Revisado: 01-26-20
I never listen to non-fiction and am not interested in the topic of depression, but a happy clicking error brought this to my library. I was hooked from the beginning. It's beautifully written and performed full of compelling anecdotes as well as scientific studies. The book focuses on "lost connections" as the cause of depression. For me, those "lost connections" also explain how we ended up with a world full of gun violence, climate disasters, opioid addiction, crass materialism, etc.
It's a powerful, hopeful guide to creating a world where everyone can live a rich and fulfilling life.
