Historia
For sports agent Myron Bolitar, the disappearance of a man he once competed against was bringing back memories, of the sport he and Greg Downing had both played and the woman they both loved. Now, among the stars, the wanna-bes, the gamblers, and the groupies, Myron is unraveling the strange, violent ride of a sports hero gone wrong, and coming face-to-face with a past he can't relive, and a present he may not survive.

Dated

Be aware that this book really shows it's age by highlighting cutting edge "cellular" phones, floppy disks and cool *69 phone features. While I'm sure it was great back in the 90s, it is distracting now.

Historia
Passionate, profound, and deeply moving, The Hours tells the story of three women: Clarissa Vaughan, who one New York morning goes about planning a party in honor of a beloved friend; Laura Brown, who in a 1950s Los Angeles suburb slowly begins to feel the constraints of a perfect family and home; and Virginia Woolf, recuperating with her husband in a London suburb and beginning to write Mrs. Dalloway. By the end of the novel, the stories have intertwined, and finally come together in an act of subtle and haunting grace.

Could not follow the audio
Revisado: 07-12-08
I have no doubt that this is probably a fanstastic read. I put it in my cart just based on the number of awards it had won without knowing anything about the plot or premise. Almost an hour into the book, I still didn't get it. I don't know if it was the narration or the production, but I couldn't easily pick up on the thread switches or follow who was who. I've been an audiobook lover for over 8 years now and have to say this definitely ranks low on my list. I would suggest trying another audio version or try the physical book.

Same as the other 13
Revisado: 07-12-08
I started out as a big fan of Janet Evanovich's books and got a big kick out of the first few I read. However, they're all basically the same plot with a few variations over and over and over again. Good if all you want is a little mindless entertainment, but there's not much originality in this series. This Plum is definitely past its expiration date.

Oh, Please
Revisado: 04-06-08
I used to enjoy reading romance novels and needed a break from reality, so I downloaded this one. I'm sure it would appeal to the 21-27 crowd (no offense intended to the more mature members of that crowd), but just didn't for me.
The characters are SO contrived and immature to the point of being ridiculous. "You want me to quit casual sex cold-turkey? No more hooking up?" Please. A girl who's biggest phobia is having sex in a real bed and feels she has to complete "dares" because she goes to a meeting? GROW UP.

Monochromatic and mono-everything.
Revisado: 04-06-08
I downloaded this book because of the great ratings and the interesting plot synopsis. It's a very interesting concept, but, for me, didn't deliver much more than that. A man and a boy (both nameless) walk on a road to try to get to the sea. They're starving and scared of others. The end.
The other thing that bothered me was that the dialog was very minimalistic and the narrator sounded remarkably like Eeyore saying the lines. I kept imagining Eeyore and piglet walking down the road.

Tough one to get through
Revisado: 08-12-07
Okay, I have to admit I didn't know much about Catch-22 before adding it to my library. I had heard the phrase and knew in general what it implied, but knew very little about the origin of it. So, I decided to take a listen.
The book seemed to be more of a series of character studies within a war-time setting rather than a straight-forward plot line using characters as tools to bring the reader neathly along the path. The plot interweaved and folded back on itself from various perspectives, making it the type of book to be examined and studied.
It was difficult to do that in an audio format, especially when driving, cleaning, or multi-tasking. However, if you've read it in school or have any familiarity with the story or characters, you should enjoy it.

Revisado: 08-12-07
The first two books of this series enveloped the reader into the world of Claire and Jamie and the adventures they shared. If you've read the first two, this third installment is a must-read. Diana Gabaldon does an amazing job narrating, as always, and brings the personalities of each character to life. I definitely count myself a fan of the series.
However, it felt at times that the situations the characters encountered were a bit too numerous and over the top. (Kind of like a cartoon character that can't take 2 steps in a row without falling off a cliff or having a safe land on his head.) Also, I was expecting a bit more at the end, but don't want to say too much to spoil it for others.

Typical Koontz
Revisado: 08-12-07
As with all Koontz books, this was an easy read and an enjoyable few hours to pass. After reading several of these books, you come to expect a highly intelligent hero in a blue-collar job, an unnaturally intelligent and perceptive dog, a touch of romance, and a supernatural monster made of leaves and mud. This book had all but the mud-man. No great surprises in this one.

Lacks cohesion and has way too many characters
Revisado: 10-18-05
I completely agree with the other reviewers who said this book was meandering and had too many characters. I loved the premise of the book, but I was so confused trying to make mental notes about which of the approximately 20 characters were related to which and when events happened that it was a major chore to just get through the book. I did enjoy several of the story lines within the book, but the book as a whole lacked cohesion and a sense of purpose.
