Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

It is common to feel like you are reading the same book over and over again. This was something completely new and extremely sweet.

I love learning new things!

The performances were fantastic! You truly loved/hated each character. The story itself was very good and research was definitely well done.

The performance was fine, but the story was only ok. It was easy to listen to, but no real punch to it.

Gives good insight…
Revisado: 06-28-23
The story line itself was predictable. The wonderful part of the book comes from the highlighting of the struggles of the Cuban people, both who left and those who stayed.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

His truth
Revisado: 01-18-23
I am not pro or anti either side here, but this book is Harry’s truth and is well done. He hasn’t said anything damning against his family, and while sometimes critical, it is apparent that he loves them. His main transgressor has and will always be the British media.

Historia
Today it is known as Roosevelt Island. In 1828, when New York City purchased this narrow, two-mile-long island in the East River, it was called Blackwell's Island. There, over the next hundred years, the city would build a lunatic asylum, prison, hospital, workhouse, and almshouse. Stacy Horn has crafted a compelling and chilling narrative told through the stories of the poor souls sent to Blackwell's, as well as the period's city officials, reformers, and journalists (including the famous Nellie Bly). Damnation Island re-creates what daily life was like on the island....

Just ok.
Revisado: 10-19-22
It was wonderfully researched and actually very interesting. I can’t explain why I couldn’t wait for it to end, but about halfway through I wanted it to stop. Of course I had to finish, but I’ve never been so happy for finish a book. It wasn’t bad. The narrator was ok. The stories were ok. They were just all so similar and it felt like different variations of the same story on repeat.

Both Even and Valuable are seeking the family, love, and commitment they never had, and their search ultimately takes both of them to places they never dreamed they'd go.

Favorite book of all time.
Revisado: 04-25-19
I read this book at least once a year and every time there is something new about it that jumps out. Listening to it was wonderful. I enjoyed it immensely. The only thing negative was that sometimes at the end of the chapter they would cut off the end last couple of words of a sentence before moving on to the next chapter.

Historia
Twenty-eight-year-old Even Grade is a Black man who was orphaned as a child. 15-year-old Valuable Korner is a White girl who might as well have been orphaned. Petal, Mississippi, circa 1956, seems an unlikely spot for these two to connect, but a friendship forged across race lines is just one of many miracles waiting to happen in this small Southern town.
