This, the only memoir published by a former Schindler's List child, perfectly captures the innocence of a small boy who goes through the unthinkable. Most notable is the lack of rancour, the lack of venom, and the abundance of dignity in Mr Leyson's telling. The Boy on the Wooden Box is a legacy of hope, a memoir unlike anything you've ever read.

The Kid Version of Schindler's List!
Revisado: 05-20-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to anyone in middle school, or above. This book is a very quick listen.
The author represented the words and phrases authentically and most caring, so yes, this audiobook is highly recommendable if you are in the mood for a different view on the holocaust and the impossible.
What other book might you compare The Boy on the Wooden Box to and why?
Schindler's List would be comparable. The author, Leon Leyson, notes throughout the audio that he holds many memories of Schindler and his time being on "Schindler's List."
Have you listened to any of Danny Burstein’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Not that I can remember, but he is wonderful. Mr. Burstein is sure to become one of my favorites.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I'd have to say the beginning of this audio brought great truth to the author and his family, which felt similar to my own youth in the United States. I could not understand how a young boy was going to endure the holocaust and live to tell his story. The ending was another great surprise to me. I am always amazed to learn how one is able to move on in life, take the experiences, and then... Each of the authors siblings played an important role in his life and his strength. Similarly, I felt his strength is how many of us (myself included) are able to walk through the roughest times in our own lives. Family is so very important. The author shares epic loyalty throughout his memoir. The reason to listen to this audiobook would be to learn more about the holocaust with younger children. For those of us who want "normal," perhaps every person creates his or her own normal....this book is a loving reminder about making the best out of life in all situations.

Oh Sir! You are old;
Revisado: 04-04-14
What did you love best about Shakespeare's Tragedies?
Although, the words delivered are so extraordinarily tragic, the speaker enriches the meaning profoundly ten times over. As I listened to King Lear and other tragic Shakespeare stories told by Professor Kinney, I realized how engulfed I quickly became as each word echoed through her enriched my understanding of what I had previously known of Shakespeares tragedies. I love that Shakespeare Tragedies can connect me with the production and the performance through words. Professor Kinney has such an eloquent voice to enhance the tragedies.
Who was your favorite character and why?
More than ever my favorite character would be King Lear. Ha! King Lear, his daughter's and Edward, this character list helps to enhance the story of Lear as he comes to terms with the laws of justice. We are offered a glimpse at how it could feel to be faced with consequences of our actions and be at odds with our own personal conscience. Naturally, there are several choices, conflicts, and political situations which are surrounding Lear throughout his clash as he is forced to reflect on human laws and moral laws. How many times I've said to someone, we see, but we don't see what we are shown.
Have you listened to any of Professor Clare R. Kinney’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I've never listened to Professor Kinney's performances, but she far outshines most professional female speakers. I do have favorites, but she ranks up there with the best.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Professor Kinney is the perfect individual to read this audio book, perhaps more are in store for her, and her next move in life will be in this genre of literature and entertainment. Her explanations and comments offer a true analysis of each one of the Shakespearean stories in this Great Courses Course (sounds redundant, but it is what it is). Ok, so Professor Kinney, has such a sweet voice, soothing, enhancing of every Renaissance piece spoken in contemporary productions. She has a knack of using the verbal text and shifting into a visual image in order to relate and heighten the stories.Even characters who murder, such as in MacBeth, I'm assuming if you've read MacBeth, who are the most unscrupulous, despicable, revengeful individuals can be thought of as fully developed through Professor Kinney's descriptions. I did cry at the end of her reading Othello, but this is true of every time I come to the end of Othello. In this story, we know that Shakespeare had the ability to convey such a range of emotion in a very piece, that we really do not know how to react until it happens. I never understand in its entirety the feeling of jealousy, but it too is an emotion that is drawn upon in such a provocative way that we begin to reflect upon our lives. This course, is such a powerful read, that I cannot recommend it any higher than I have, but if it were possible I would like to say thank you.

Would you listen to Wicked again? Why?
Probably, not today, but possibly in the future. It was a great fantasy. I loved every moment of it, but when it was done there was a sense of thoroughness about it.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Wicked?
The parts that people never ever mentioned who saw the play.
Which scene was your favorite?
Elpheba's relationship with Fiyero. Better yet, when Elpheba goes to live with Fiyero's wife later in the story. That's perfect...
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Historia
A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life and foibles from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below". At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C.S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly-wise old Devil to his nephew, Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man.

Revisado: 08-06-13
What did you love best about The Screwtape Letters?
The structure of each letter.
What other book might you compare The Screwtape Letters to and why?
I'm not sure I can compare this book to another, possibly reference the Bible. I also read Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde at the same time. Other great perspectives to suggest, not compare would be The Little Prince.
What about Ralph Cosham’s performance did you like?
How comfortable he was in each role.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No laughing, no crying....you should read this as a family and reflect on its qualities.

If you could sum up Things Fall Apart in three words, what would they be?
Sacrifice, Obedience, Life
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ezinma was a character who, in this setting, stood out as different. Her mother treated her equally; her father treated her as his favorite. She is a central figure in the changes occuring within the structure of this story. Ikemufuna is also interesting within this story.
Which scene was your favorite?
The marriage was interesting. The missionaries entering into the area and onto the land where this tribe had been existing for many years.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, and I would do it again.

Charming Pip takes on a life of Great Expectatons
Revisado: 08-06-13
Where does Great Expectations rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Sincere, sweet, charming, in Dickens quality; very straightforward in style as the narrator explains how he is destined for Great Expectations. The first time this is spoken in the audio Pip's world expands beyond all worldly possessions [happy sigh!]. This audio was suberb in quality, the reading was wonderful-thank you. Among other rankings in my library, this is high up on the list of most valuable.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Great Expectations?
I won't ruin the end because it was so great, but the funny moments in between when Pip's sister's husband Joe interacts with Pip. Joe is so simplistic in nature. Every time he enters the story you are sure to get a laugh.
Have you listened to any of Frank Muller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, they are all equally superb!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Estella......their interaction was particularly touching. From the moment the two met, each time they'd meet again and most certainly the ending. Unexpected....
