While the world seems to be in love with the idea of tiny houses and minimalism, many of us simply can't purge it all and start from nothing. Yet a home with too much stuff is difficult to maintain, so where do we begin? Add in paralyzing emotional attachments and constant life challenges, and it can feel almost impossible to make real decluttering progress.

Dana read my mind!
Revisado: 04-23-25
I loved this book. Being someone who likes to collect things, I have a lot of stuff. I have read other declutter books, but Dana seemed to just know my mindset as to why I struggle to get rid of stuff. I have been putting her principles to work, and suddenly I am able to declutter. I have spare shelf space and empty cardboard boxes. I can even find things! I cannot praise this book enough and highly recommend it to anyone who has trouble with not having enough space in their home.

Historia
Kate Sedgwick's life has been anything but typical. She's endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all she remains happy and optimistic (there's a reason her best friend, Gus, calls her Bright Side). Kate is strong willed, funny, smart, and musically gifted. She's also never believed in love. So when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall in love with Keller Banks.

Content warning: not a happy ending
Revisado: 02-28-25
While I really liked the characters and plot of this story, it didn't feel like a regular romance book. By the time I got to the end I worked out why. It went to places I was not wanting to go, so I jumped some chunks of the last few chapters.
One of the main characters is very sick and the amount of detail Kim goes into, describing the condition and side effects I found quite traumatic. Maybe it was written more as self therapy for the author than with the reader in mind. Particularly because I wasn't expecting it. This nasty surprise took away from all the wonderful descriptions Kim put in about music and the complex feelings the characters went through.
So just giving other readers a heads up that this does not follow the regular romance tropes.
The narrators were very good and read it well.

Gruesome details. Complex plot. Dystopian outlook
Revisado: 02-24-25
On the one hand, it was really interesting to read a book written about a different culture. On the other hand, I found the amount of surveillance and lack of self determination depressing. Both for the humans on earth and the tri-sol aliens. I can see the impact of the cultural revolution.
The amount of detail in the science and descriptions of technology is truly impressive. I did get a little confused with the jumping back and forth between the human timeline, the video game timeline, and the alien's timeline.
In general I struggled with the descriptions of torture of dissidents. Overall, I found this book pretty depressing and disturbing.

Romance author Riley Cooper always dreamed of living by the water. But within a day of landing in the charming seaside town of Port Stewart to work on her latest book, she's getting calls and texts for some dude on her new number. Weird ones. Sad ones. Sexy ones. Ones that make her want to meet him. For curiosity's sake...if nothing else.

Solid Kylie Scott novel
Revisado: 01-31-25
I liked the premise for this book, wrong number leading to romance. It all goes along well until near the end, which went a bit odd, with a sudden break up then get back together. That seemed a bit of a stretch.
Andi Arndt even gets a mention in the novel, and deservedly so. She is a phenomenal narrator.
I like Kylie's work and characters, so a solid 3/5.

Historia
Finding and identifying a pirate ship is the hardest thing to do under the sea. But two men—John Chatterton and John Mattera—are willing to risk everything to find the Golden Fleece, the ship of the infamous pirate Joseph Bannister. At large during the Golden Age of Piracy in the seventeenth century, Bannister should have been immortalized in the lore of the sea—his exploits more notorious than Blackbeard’s, more daring than Kidd’s. But his story, and his ship, have been lost to time.

Story comes with ironic twist
Revisado: 12-04-24
This is a well told tale about the finding of a pirate ship. There are a lot of characters, each with their own way of doing things. The plot moves along well, and maintains interest. I did find it a bit grating that they heaped so much hero worship on the pirates, or privateers (as some called them) of old. They continually elevated these cutthroat thieves to almost cult status, (although they did call them thieves).
As the crew near the lost treasure, a few other people try to jump their claim and steal it out from under them. The disgust and anger turned towards these, dare I say, modern day privateers, seemed ironic coming from people who hold pirates in such high esteem.

Wonderful read. Big thumbs up.
Revisado: 11-08-24
I really liked all three of these books. The characters were relatable, the vivid descriptions of sights, smells and customs were extraordinary. Alka must have put in many, many hours of research into each book and it shows. It was so gripping I stayed up way too late listening.
I also loved the narrators. They were all excellent and very easy to listen to.
If I could change anything, I would make the little sister a bit less 'woe is me'. Everything bad that happened to her was someone else's fault. She constantly blamed her older sister. I quickly lost all sympathy and thought of her as a spoiled brat.
Highly recommend this trilogy.

Great story, bad narration
Revisado: 11-04-24
I really loved this book. The characters were wonderful and their antics had me laughing out aloud. The pace was great. The plot kept me interested. It is a heartwarming and uplifting story. The only bad thing was the narration. For some reason, Angie Kane kept pausing part... way through... a sentence. It got old quickly. I look forward to reading more books by Lucy Gilmore, but not if they have the same narrator.

Read the previous books
Revisado: 10-07-24
I bought this book because it was the first in a series. I did not know it is obviously a spin off from another series. Having not read the original series, I felt a bit lost sometimes, and some of the characters were not introduced as thoroughly as I would have liked because, if I had read the other series, I would already know them.
All that being said, the narration was fantastic. The setting, although a bleak ice world, was interesting. The plot is very much goodies vs baddies, but it was interesting enough to hold my interest. The ending is typical 'you haven't heard the last of us' war type thing, but it did finish this story line.
I like Elizabeth's writing and will have a look to see what else she has written.

Historia
The Viking Age - from 750 to 1050 saw an unprecedented expansion of the Scandinavian peoples into the wider world. As traders and raiders, explorers and colonists, they ranged from eastern North America to the Asian steppe. But for centuries, the Vikings have been seen through the eyes of others, distorted to suit the tastes of medieval clerics and Elizabethan playwrights, Victorian imperialists, Nazis, and more. None of these appropriations capture the real Vikings, or the richness and sophistication of their culture.

Full of facts and gore
Revisado: 10-03-24
If you want a scholarly text filled with viking facts then this is the book for you. It goes into what archeologists have dug up, surviving oral history, and geographical data and the conclusions they have reached. It is very detailed, but I had to skip through some parts as they were way too gory for me. I do not want to hear about ritual sacrifices or what they did to female slaves. If you like the tales of Thor, Odin or Loki, then you will not like this book. It tells of the real Vikings, what they ate, what they wore and how they plundered towns, monasteries, took slaves and looted for generations. There was also a lot of descriptions of how they filed their teeth into points.

The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. Terrible narrator
Revisado: 10-02-24
This story is lightweight and moves along at a good pace. Easy listening, except for two things. First, the narrator keeps pausing for no reason. It gets irritating fast. I also found the reveal at the very end is quite complex, overly so.
The two women sleuths have a believable relationship, and the ancillary characters, like the town gossip and the pious old woman added a fun twist to the story.
