Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Good story line but heroine not believable
Revisado: 11-26-24
The main character is a 32 year old psychologist, so it was hard to believe her in all her anxiety episodes and leftover childhood traumas. Also, she left herself manipulated into doing dangerous things and risking her life just for the sake of truth finding.
Really annoying was that on way to many occasions her “stomach lurches” . It’s great to use this expression to indicate someone is frightened, but if it use too often it is just too much.
I listened until the end and it was okay, albeit a bit too much of a Hollywood outcome.

Great story

A great story and and awesome performance, but the author is dragging it out too much.I found myself skipping ahead to avoid all the long and minuscule descriptions that did nothing for the story other than fill the time.

Not a story, just a string of violence sex scenes
Revisado: 12-15-22
I like a good mystery, and love thrillers, but the story in this book is just a string of sadistic and masochistic events. The actions and decisions of the main character are not logical, or understandable. The description of violent sex and domination is increasingly gruesome to the point I had to stop listening so uncomfortable I felt. If there is a feminist side to this, I will never find out, because I was so repulsed by the way the combining of sex and violence was glorified.
If I could, this would be one of the rare occasions I would return a book to get my money back, unfortunately, I bought it on sale, so it has to get archived under >not for me<

Historia
In a small, tidy apartment on the outskirts of the frenzied metropolis of Seoul lives Kim Jiyoung. A 30-something-year-old “millennial everywoman”, she has recently left her white-collar desk job - in order to care for her newborn daughter full-time - as so many Korean women are expected to do. But she quickly begins to exhibit strange symptoms that alarm her husband, parents, and in-laws: Jiyoung impersonates the voices of other women - alive and even dead, both known and unknown to her.

Another country, another time- same problem
Revisado: 07-31-22
A real eye opener about the challenges young woman in Korea have to face these days, torn between the traditional rules of patriarchy, the values of their families and ancestors and the urge to make something out of their college education and find a career that is fulfilling and satisfying their intellect. I was born in the sixties in Germany, so lived through different times and regions, but felt so connected to her and understood. Patriarchy is universal and a modern world that brings on the ambivalence of expecting mothers to take care of their children AND have their own career while looking pretty and staying healthy is a dilemma for woman all over. A good book to start this discussion. Well performed and fascinating until the end.

Dragging out….Disappointing
Revisado: 07-30-22
I pre-ordered this audiobook because I loved Ruth Ware’s other books, but I will never do that again.
The story is dragging out and in parts boring and not believable. How come the main protagonist waits ten years before starting to consider that she might not know all the facts that lead her to testify against, and ultimately cause a conviction and prison sentence, for another person? -but now, being pregnant and hypertensive, with no disregard for her unborn child, she gets on this, for her highly emotional and possible dangerous, journey of going back in time to find the real killer…The amount of times her “stomach lurches “ or any other visceral experience was mentioned in minute details got absolutely annoying and felt like text fillers to embellish an otherwise short story. In addition the performance was overly dramatic and hysterical. Halfway through the story I found myself reading other reviews to check if it is worth sticking out until the end and only because some of them were encouraging I stayed. Although the promised twist at the end was somewhat predictable. Overall, I am disappointed and have taken the author off my favorites list.

Revisado: 02-12-22
Interesting story but a detective who travels into a different country and orders fellow detective around, drinks himself into a stupor, vomits on hotel floors, sleeps with a hooker and witness in his case ,while being in love wit another and beats up people to get even, is not my kind of detective. A very annoying and full of himself Harry Hole.

Somewhat dragging on
Revisado: 01-08-22
The story line was not very believable and it felt the author was explaining things, that were blatantly obvious just for the sake of dragging things out. The weirdest part was the unexpected twist at the end - now two girls were kidnapped and held captive by DIFFERENT people- really?? What are the odds?
