Corporate Bootlicking

Dissapointing. I picked up this book hoping for an immersive look into Richard's life, and how he overcame his struggles to ultimately impact the world... There's about 10% of that. Very surface level, shallow details. The rest is corporate bootlicking and capitalist propaganda. He drank the Koolaid and gave the pitcher a rim job.

It's jarring to expect an underdog story, and get hit in the face with vague Zig-Ziglar, Brian Tracy-esque, corporate "motivational" jargon regurgitation. The book comes across as that written by a wannabe guru. In doing so cheapening his accomplishments and the unique insight a latino in the 80s at the bottom of the corporate ladder would have.

It is not often one reads a book that causes a paradigm shift... All of the things the author speaks on have been observable for centuries, but it's like you never stopped to connect the dots. Especially if you've done any amount of femenist reading. This book differs in that it feels fresh and modern and is not dry with historical dates, court cases, dry stats ect. But moreso applicable scenarios. Being read by the author made it that much more enjoyeable also!

Very annoying how the author tried to gloss over and endear him being a terrible father and husband. Kissing his ass won't make you rich too, you people know that right? Endless praise of him being a picky eater ect. Just picture a mom at the playground who can't stop going on and on about the minutiae that make her son wonderful, even if he poked and pinched kids on the playground. Now picture the boredom you have after half an hour of her going on like this, multiply it by 37 and you have this book. Not an objective analysis at all. But if you're part of the 1% boot licking fan club, I'm sure you'll love it.

This book is by far the best. None of that 'telling the bully how you feel' nonsense that only makes things worse. I wish I'd stumbled on this book sooner, before wasting countless hours on the other ones.

This author gets it. From a sociological standpoint, he really understands the workings of a bully in social groups; why and how they are able to continue doing what they do. From a psychological standpoint, you will get an unfiltered view into how bullies think.

No fluff; pure, raw insight and clear actionable steps. I listened to this book on audible but will now be getting a paperback so I can go back through to highlight and annotate.

The narraration is also excellent. This is a worthy investment of your time and credit.

Terrible narration, and the whole book it seems like the author is trying to scare you off from doing your own maintenance.
"Hire a professional." "Consul your local mechanic." There I saved you a credit.
Being feightened off from doing maintenance is the last thing the type of people picking up this book need. If like me, you try to power past through the fear mongering, good luck. Lots of fluff that drones on forever before you get to little bits of useful information. You're better off watching youtube for free. Youtube encouraged me to and helped me with various tasks, battery, oil, mass airflow sensor, power steering, spark plugs, and I am now looking into installing a turbo and catback exhaust. This book? "Consult a professional." Waste of time.

The book is very well researched and explained. Complex concepts are made digestible for the layman, without leaving out the nuance that would make the subject matter interesting foe someone versed in the sciences.

Pretentious and Pedantic

I found the constant reference to people without Economics educational backgrounds as "humans," and people with an Economics background as "Econs" overly pretentious and pedantic.

You don't pick up any astrophysics/engineering/philospohy or book of any other field and are constantly reminded that people without the educational backgrounds are, "just humans" and that those versed in the field are, "insert made up term." My undergrad is in Economics and no one calls each other "Econs." It seems to be a made up term for the author and his cohorts to feel special. Behavioral Psychology affects everyone, and everyone takes part in Behavioral Economics. Economics trained individuals are no more rational than the author painstakingly and falsely claims.

I was also caught off guard by how often the author's personal politics came up. Personal politics and biases should not interfere with research, but they seem to have been the filter with which the entire book was written.

Besides brief explanations of some behavioral psychology and behavioral economics, the bulk of the book is a rehash of the experiments of others' and their results. There is nothing new or original here. Overall, I personally found it nauseating and a slog to get through.

An absolute gem. Touching on the many corner stones of physics, while managing to be entertaining. Descriptions are given for novices and laymen to follow along, allowing for the appreciation of physics, and astro physics without the barrier of formal training.

The narration is also superbly done.
