Historia
A Crime Club selection, this intrguing tale has been reviewed as "...the very best whodunnit in many a day...Not to be missed." It starts with plans to bury deceased Great-uncle Frederick in the family vault on Beacon Hill. When the vault is opened, there's someone already there that no one could ever expect-the skeleton of a burlesque queen who disappeared thirty years ago! It's up to young Sarah Kelling to hold the shocked family together, and try to find out what happened.

Witty Mysteries, Light Listening

Any additional comments?
Sarah Kelling Kelling is introduced to us as a girl learning to be a woman. Finding her independence in a world of stolid traditions and old relatives, young Sarah comes into her own in this first of the series. Usually light, funny mysteries, this first book is still witty but slightly more somber in nature. The mysteries are just convoluted enough to keep you guessing until the final chapters. The true magic of these stories are the characters themselves. Colourful, outrageous, silly, farcical -- these are entertainment on the order of Miss Marple crossed with a bit of Arsenic and Old Lace.

Historia
Sarah's Aunt Emma's theatre troupe is doing The Sorcerer, as Emma has always hankered to play Lady Sangazure. Perhaps she made a bad choice, though, by casting a well-connected con man in the title role. It's no mere evil spell that leaves Charlie Daventer dead on his bathroom floor. But the show must go on. Cousin Frederick is hurled into the breach. Old Fred really can't tolerate the general assumption that his friend Charlie died by accident. He convinces Sarah that murder has been committed.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have adored the gentle humour and delightful characters created by Charlotte Macleod for 30 years. To see them on Audible was a delightful walk down memory lane. The stories are witty, fast moving, quirky, and just twisty enough to keep you guessing until nearly the very end. Somewhere between Agatha Christie and Charlaine Harris ( think Miss Marple crossed with Aurora Teagarden), Sarah Kelling Kelling Bittersohn is a spunky girl with a whole host of colourful family members to entertain you as you traipse through old guard Boston's scandals, peccadillos, skeletons and drawing-rooms. The narrator strikes just the right tone to bring Sarah's fresh voice and determination to life. These are fast fun listens and will be on my list of winter yarns for many years to come.
What does Andi Arndt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
A good voice and solid interpretation of the stories.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Chuckles a plenty!

Would you listen to It again? Why?
"IT" is a truly exceptional story. Steven Weber's narration and characterizations make Kings prose move easily.
What did you like best about this story?
Like so many of King's stories there is no "one" thing I like best. King makes his characters real(this is why his tales are frightening.) Understanding the magic of childhood and the loss of leaving the magic behind is a consistant theme throughout this story. Reading "IT" is like looking at a painting by a master, where all the brushstrokes form an image that is only made complete by being explored by a viewer.
Which character – as performed by Steven Weber – was your favorite?
Ben Hanscom
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The reunion of Bill and Silver
